Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine has a plan to revitalize Lower Manhattan's waterfront by tearing down part of FDR Drive. Levine last week unveiled a plan to remove a raised section of the highway between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Battery Park Underpass and replace it with green space and bike lanes.

Famous Bay Ridge Gingerbread House is on the market again, asking $8.75M

This one-of-a-kind dwelling at 8200 Narrows Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is anything but cookie-cutter basic. Known as the Gingerbread House, this cute-enough-to-eat Hobbit-esque home is an American Arts and Crafts-style design by architect James Sarsfield Kennedy. Built for shipping mogul Howard Jones in 1918, the home was described as "the most magnificent residence in all of New York City." According to Brownstoner, the home was last listed in 2017 for $9 million. It's currently asking $8,750,000.

Major South Bronx development Bankside opens lottery for 132 apartments, from $2,525/month

The sprawling South Bronx mixed-use development Bankside released another housing lottery this week. Applications are now being accepted for 132 middle-income apartments at Lincoln at Bankside, a four-tower development with 921 apartments and a new public waterfront park. New Yorkers earning 130 percent of the area median income, or between $86,572 for a single person annually and $198,250 for a household of five, can apply for the units, priced from $2,525/month studios to $3,400/month two bedrooms.

Located at 73-65 Yellowstone Boulevard, The Yellowstone offers residents spacious units, indoor and outdoor amenities, and easy access to a new Trader Joe's opening on the building's ground floor. New Yorkers earning 130 percent of the area median income, or between $96,000 for a single person and $198,250 for a household of five, can apply for the apartments, priced between $2,750/month for one-bedrooms and $3,599/month for two-bedrooms.

Manhattan’s first-ever film and TV studio coming to Pier 94

Vornado Realty Trust is joining forces with industry giants Blackstone and Hudson Pacific Properties to transform Manhattan's Pier 94 into the borough's first-ever major TV and film studio production complex. Work is expected to begin later this year on the 266,000-square-foot campus, known as Sunset Pier 94 Studios, which will include six soundstages, offices, a writers' room, and public amenities along Manhattan's West Side, according to the Wall Street Journal. The $350 million project could be completed by the end of 2025.

Lottery opens for new senior apartments in Chelsea, from $686/month

A housing lottery opened this week at a new apartment building in Chelsea. Located at 278 Eighth Avenue, the 14-story mixed-use building will have 190 total apartments, with 25 percent set aside for seniors, and a ground-floor Target store. Through the lottery, 44 apartments are available to those who are, or have a family member who is, at least 62 years of age and earns 40, 60, and 80 percent of the area median income. An additional four apartments are open to those who earn 130 percent of the area median income. Apartments are priced from $686/month studios to $3,753/month two-bedrooms.

The Brooklyn Public Library on Friday opened a new installation celebrating the life and legacy of Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, from his beginnings in Bed-Stuy's Marcy Projects to worldwide fame. Located at the library's Central Branch next to Prospect Park, the exhibition, titled "The Book of HOV," features art, images, ephemera, and memorabilia from the rapper's archives that pay tribute to his incredible life and career and highlight the ways he helped redefine hip-hop, music, and culture on a global scale. The experience is free and open to the public for a limited time starting July 14.

The new cards honor the genre and commemorate New York City's integral role in its rise to global fame. Ground has broken on the second phase of Hudson Exchange, one of Jersey City's largest and most anticipated redevelopment projects. Located at 420 Marin Boulevard, the 1.3 million square foot development will feature a 60-story mixed-use tower with 802 luxury rental apartments and 115,000 square feet of retail space. Developed by Brookfield Properties and G&S Investors, the property will also include pre-leased ShopRite supermarket space.

America's biggest and boldest Independence Day celebration returns to New York City for its 47th year. Macy's annual fireworks show will ring in the Fourth of July with 60,000 shells launched from five barges in the East River from East 26th Street to East 40th Street. There are plenty of firework watch parties being hosted across the city, but Macy's has announced seven official viewing locations where you can enjoy the show for free, including spots in Midtown, Long Island City, Greenpoint, and Williamsburg with unobstructed views.

Designed by Abel Bainnson Butz, LLP and CDR Design Studio Architects, the park has been enhanced with new plantings, a public restroom, a permanent picnic area with lighting, a spacious turf sports field, and an expansive dog run. Located at West 23rd Street and the Westside Highway in Manhattan, the revamped park's layout prioritizes usable green space for New Yorkers.

With hundreds of parks and over 500 miles of waterfront, New York City is an excellent place for bird watching. The five boroughs serve as a temporary and permanent home to over 400 species of bird, thanks to both habitat diversity and location on the Atlantic Flyway, the route birds follow during migrations. From Pelham Bay Park in the northeast Bronx down to Great Kills Park on the South Shore of Staten Island, there is no shortage of birding activities in New York. We've rounded up the best places to find feathered friends throughout the city, most of which are accessible via public transportation. New Jersey’s largest resiliency park can hold up to 2 million gallons of stormwater

A brand new park in Hoboken will also work to prevent flooding during storms. Located at 12th and Madison Streets, ResilenCity Park includes five acres of public open space, basketball courts, and athletic fields, and has the ability to detain up to two million gallons of water. Considered the largest resiliency park in New Jersey, the new park is part of a broader effort by Hoboken to build more resilient storm infrastructure after Hurricane Sandy flooded most of the city in 2012.

‘Summer Streets’ coming to all five boroughs this year

The "Summer Streets" program will expand to all five boroughs for the first time ever. The annual event, which began in 2008, closes several miles of Manhattan streets to cars for outdoor recreation and activities. This year, the popular program will also come to Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island over five Saturdays between July and August, Mayor Eric Adams announced on Monday.
