New York City’s OG food hall, Chelsea Market, is set to expand in September. The market’s lower level, known as The Chelsea Local, will nearly double in size—from 13,000 square feet to 25,000 square feet—and add a range of new vendors, including Black Seed Bagels, Las Delicias Patisserie, and Pearl River Mart Foods, a new grocery from Asian emporium Pearl River Mart. The addition will bring the market’s total size up to 135,000 square feet, easily making it the largest food hall in the city.

The market added the Chelsea Local underground level in 2017 to provide a wide selection of specialty food items and rare ingredients. The current roster of vendors includes Zach & Zoe Sweet Bee Farm, Manhattan Fruit Exchange, Buon Italia, Saxelby Cheesemongers, and Heatonist.

“The Chelsea Local continues the legacy of Chelsea Market as a neighborhood market with a global perspective,” said Michael Phillips, president of Jamestown, the market operator, in a statement. “We’re proud to be adding to our lineup of local vendors and to offer an increased benefit to our neighbors and community.”

The new vendors will include Black Seed Appetizing, a new concept from Black Seed Bagels that will expand their offerings to include a variety of Jewish staples. Las Delicias Patisserie—whose vegetarian, kosher pastries are typically sold at farmers market’s—will open it’s first brick and mortar in the space.

In addition to the new options, some classic Chelsea Market purveyors will get a chance to expand their footprint. Dickson’s Farmstead Meats is moving from the ground floor to a larger 2,360 square-foot space within The Chelsea Local. The new location will continue to offer artisanal meat, poultry, hot dogs, rotisserie chicken, and sandwiches, as well as new prepared foods and grilled meats. Pearl River Mart is opening Pearl River Mart Foods, a 1,970-square-foot grocery that will feature a wide range of specialty items in addition to prepared food.

A new dedicated entrance from 15th Street will also be added for the fall opening, which is expected sometime in mid-September.
