Actor Penn Badgley picks up pretty Park Slope pad for $1.83M

Actor Penn Badgley has moved to Park Slope. Known for his roles in Gossip Girl and most recently, Netflix's You, Badgley paid $1,825,000 for a corner three-bedroom, two-bath at 140 Eighth Avenue, a 1930s co-op located just a block from Prospect Park. As first reported by real estate gossip blog Dirt, and confirmed by property records, the actor and his wife, musician Domino Kirke, paid $100,000 over the asking price.

Target opens new store on the Upper East Side

Target has expanded its New York City footprint once again. A new store opened on the Upper East Side this week a year after the company announced the new Manhattan location. Located at 150 East 86th Street, the 55,000-square-foot store is Target's 12th store in the borough and its 11th "small-format" location, which offers convenient on-the-go options and pick-up service.

The first major battle to take place during the Revolutionary War after the United States declared independence took place in Brooklyn on August 27, 1776. During the Battle of Brooklyn, fighting took place across the borough, including throughout present-day Prospect Park, Fulton Ferry Landing, and Green-Wood Cemetery. To commemorate the 245th anniversary of the historic struggle, Green-Wood Cemetery is hosting a family-friendly event this month with Revolutionary War reenactors, music, demonstrations, and other activities.

Next week, 24 weed-eating goats will return to Riverside Park. On Wednesday, July 14, the animals will arrive for the Riverside Park Conservancy's second-ever "Running of the Goats," where the public can see them run from their truck to a weed-filled hill at 120th Street. Five of the goats will then remain for the duration of the summer and campaign to be the G.O.A.T., for which the public can vote-the-GOAT using a "new and heretofore untested ranked-choice voting system."

254 mixed-income apartments come online at new affordable Flatbush project, from $567/month

On the border of Flatbush and Prospect Lefferts Gardens, just two blocks away from Prospect Park, a new affordable housing development has opened its lottery for 254 apartments, ranging from $566/month studios to $3,542/month three-bedrooms. Located at 800 Flatbush Avenue and called Caton Flats, the 14-story mixed-use building sought "to reinvigorate the local Caribbean-American community through an upgraded Flatbush Caton Market, new retail space, and new headquarters of The Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry," reported CityRealty. The homes are available to those earning 40, 60, 110, and 165 percent of the area median income.

In addition to its prominence in the skyline, the building is also known for its failed deal with Amazon. The retailer had planned to lease one million square feet of space at the tower as part of its former HQ2 plan for Long Island City. But, as the Post first reported, One Court Square has inked a deal with another major retailer--Target. The store will take 31,000 square feet at the tower, with no exact opening date set.

16 NYC parks renamed in honor of Black Americans

New York City this week renamed more than a dozen park spaces in honor of notable Black Americans. In every borough, select green spaces now bear the names of Civil Rights leaders, novelists, educators, LGBTQ+ leaders, and more. Last summer, the city's Parks Department pledged solidarity with the Black community and announced plans to rename parks across the city to honor Black Americans who have local or national recognition. Since then, 28 park sites have been given a new name.
