The West is a new condo in Hell’s Kitchen, and though it was designed pre-pandemic, the number of open-air terraces and the super-fun indoor/outdoor amenities make it prime for social distancing. Located at  547 West 47th Street, the 12-story, 219-unit building was designed by Amsterdam-based firm Concrete and is currently under construction with move-ins expected to begin in the spring of next year. Among the 25,000 square feet of amenities are a rooftop pool club with BBQ grills, a pocket park, a dog run, a freestanding library, and two guest suites for when visitors come to town.

When designing the building, the architects wanted to combine the neighborhood’s industrial past with something new and contemporary. Therefore,  the seven-story base is composed of oversized window walls and a facade composed of Dutch-made upcycled bricks. Above, “The Cloud” is a five-story glass topper with many terraces acting as Tetris-like volumes.

The building spans the entire block of 11th Avenue between West 47th and 48th Streets within walking distance to Hudson Yards and Midtown. It’s being developed by CBSK Ironstate.

The amenities begin as soon as you walk in. “The Hall” is the 24-hour attended concierge desk, while the “Glasshouse is a freestanding library with a fireplace, living room, and communal worktable. There’s also “the Post Office,” a mail room that offers perks such as a wrapping station for packages.

The outdoor rooftop space is definitely the star of the show. Called “The Tar Beach Pool Club,” it includes a pocket park, a pet spa and dog run, an outdoor dining areas with BBQ grills, a sunset terrace with a firepit. The pool overlooks the Manhattan skyline, as well as the gold coast of New Jersey. There’s also an adjacent indoor/outdoor children’s playroom and a communal kitchen.

The double-height gym was curated by the Wright Fit and features an outdoor training deck.

When it comes to the residences, those in the Cloud are the most spacious, and most have outdoor terraces. They feature  natural oak floors, sliding glass walls, and Calacatta marble countertops.

Pricing for studios starts at $910,000, one-bedrooms at $1.28 million, two-bedrooms at $2.065 million, and three-bedrooms at $2.76 million.
