At this five-acre Hamptons getaway, a grass roof and infinity pool camouflage with the landscape

This five-acre waterfront family getaway on the Hamptons' Peconic Bay was designed by Manhattan-based firm Mapos with the intention of being sustainable and timeless (h/t Dezeen). The site's existing tree arrangement was maintained at the request of the family, who were particularly taken by an old Sycamore. So as to not disturb the existing fauna on the property, it was also decided that only unfinished materials would be used in the home, including steel and concrete – painted sheetrock was strictly out – and allowed to naturally patina.

East Hamptons’ mortality-fighting Bioscleave House could be yours for $2.5M

In East Hampton, the mortality-fighting Bioscleave House (aka the Life-Span Extending Villa) has returned to the market for the second time in its existence and is asking $2,495,000. Combination experimental art installation and dwelling, the 52-colored Cubist four-bedroom was commission by Italian art collector Angela Gallman from the late design duo Arakawa and Madeline Gins for $1.25 million in 2007, according to Curbed. As 6sqft previously explained, "the duo’s design philosophy is to combat mortality by creating architecture that makes people use their bodies in unexpected ways, challenging them to maintain equilibrium, in turn stimulating their immune systems."

‘Real Housewife’ Luann De Lesseps is selling her Hamptons home for $6.3M to move upstate

Back in 2017 6sqft reported on the growing trend that saw celebrities and the well-heeled-and-hip ditching the hamptons for upstate and Catskills getaways. "Real Housewives of New York" regular Luann De Lesseps must have just gotten the memo; she's put her Sag Harbor house on the market for $6.25 million–and she's asking $150,000 in rent for the place during August. The New York Post quotes a friend of the former countess: “She loves the Hamptons, and her house, but it’s time for a change. The Hamptons is changing, and she’s looking elsewhere to summer. She’s in love with the Catskills.”

Matt Lauer finds no buyers for 22-acre Hamptons estate, chops $5M off asking price

Former NBC anchor Matt Lauer seems to be having trouble selling his "spare" Sag Harbor house–one of three Hamptons homes he owns with his likely soon-to-be ex-wife Annette Roque–which the disgraced ex-"Today Show" co-host is currently listing at $12.75 million, according to the Observer. Lauer first listed the 25-acre estate at 2301 Deerfield Road for $18 million in July of 2016. The asking price was shaved by $1 million that September, and then again in June 2017 to $14.9 million. The 8,000-square-foot, six-bedroom shingle-style house comes with a huge gunite pool and pool house, tennis court and gorgeous landscaped grounds and was designed by architect Daniel Romualdez with interiors by Muriel Brandolini; but the answer still seems to be no, thanks.

The actress, who plays the leading role of Dr. Meredith Grey in “Grey’s Anatomy,” bought the property for $925,000 in 2011. Hamptons’ infamous Grey Gardens estate sells for the first time in 40 years

Though now a stunning Hamptons home, as 6sqft previously explained, it gained notoriety as a "decrepit, crumbling, cat-infested, overgrown horror," after its isolated residents, Edith wing Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale (the aunt and cousin to Jackie O), were featured in the 1975 documentary "Grey Gardens."

Hamptons estate that was F. Scott Fitzgerald’s inspiration for ‘The Great Gatsby’ asks $17M

F. Scott Fitzgerald's cult-classic novel "The Great Gatsby," about hard-partying Long Island millionaires in the '20s, was inspired by actual soirees the author attended at mansions along the North Shore, aka the Gold Coast. One such locale, a French Normandy-style residence on Sands Point known as the Rumsey-Harriman Estate, is said to have inspired the book's fictional East Egg, and as the Post first reported it's just hit the market for $16,880,000. Designed in 1928 by none other than McKim, Mead & White, the 5.3-acre waterfront property was owned by Junior League founder Mary Harriman Rumsey, whose father was railroad tycoon E.H. Harriman and brother New York governor W. Averell Harriman. Fitzgerald spent a good deal of time at the home with Rumsey and her family, widely believed to have inspired Gatsby.

Wood slat-covered glass volumes create an elegant interior at this Hamptons guest home

A traditional Hamptons estate, nestled in the hamlet of Wainscott, got this luxurious guesthouse courtesy of Roger Ferris + Partners. The Connecticut-based architecture and design firm sought to create "a luxury reprieve for visitors" and came up with a two-structured, gabled home that looks modest from the outside but feels elegant inside. Each section of the home is dedicated to different uses--public on one side, private on the other--but both structures overlook a pool that faces the oceanfront. With a gorgeous interior and great views, its a guest house worthy of full-time living.

‘Hercules’ actor Kevin Sorbo chops the price of his giant Hamptons estate to $6.5M

Kevin Sorbo bought this five+ acre Bridgehampton property back in 2001 for $900,000. After building a massive, 12,500-square-foot, eight-bedroom home in 2004, the actor and his wife Sam Jenkins listed it for $10.5 million in 2012. It was taken off the market the following year, after which time it hit the rental market and gained its notorious reputation as the ultimate party pad, according to the Post. These "illegal" and ticketed bashes were often hosted for new product launches, but once Sorbo found out they went against town codes he presumably used some Herculean strength to put an end to it. Curbed Hamptons now reports that the sprawling residence is back on the market for the much-reduced price of $6.5 million.
