Built from the ground up, this Hamptons retreat combines nature’s beauty and paradise imagined

This Sagaponack, NY home might just be the perfect antidote for the summer of hell; it would definitely make an insufferable commute worth it. Summerhill Landscapes, Steven Harris Architects and Rees Roberts + Partners designed the idyllic Hamptons retreat on a swath of meadowland where the tall grass is never far from the sea on the East End of Long Island.

Steven Harris Architects are known for peerless projects like this gorgeous West Village townhouse. Award-winning interiors and landscape design firm Rees Roberts + Partners was formed in 2007 by the interiors and landscape departments of the former, and the two firms continue to share collaborate on many projects.

Luis Bustamante is responsible for the interiors. Originally a sculptor and painter, his projects “transmit his artistic passion between contemporary and classical arts.”

Inspired by the great landscape traditions of his native Ireland and an appreciation for the unique landscape of the East End, Declan Blackmore established Summerhill Landscapes in 1993. The firm’s passion is to build extraordinary gardens–like the ones both orderly and wild that surround this enviable home–and create places that stir the soul.

“Creating beautiful natural spaces and gardens is intuitive and part of who I am…By extension, I have been fortunate to attract an exceptionally educated and skilled team from Europe and around the world. When we step back to see what was created for our clients, it is breathtaking and very rewarding indeed,” says Blackmore.

Collaborating with clients and the best talent in the industry—highly respected landscape architects, builders and engineers—Summerhill has been able to grow and maintain a reputation as a firm that creates successful, enduring gardens that complement and enhance their surrounding sites and architecture.
