Brooklyn Nets’ Ben Simmons in contract for $13M pad at Olympia Dumbo

Brooklyn Nets point guard Ben Simmons is moving closer to the Barclays Center. The basketball star has entered contract for a combined two-unit apartment at Olympia Dumbo, a new 33-story residential development next to the Brooklyn Bridge. The apartment was listed for $13 million, as the New York Post reported, but the purchase price won't be known until Simmons closes. While the Australian-born NBA star did not play in a single Nets game last season due to an injury, his new home in Dumbo is less than 15 minutes away from the team's home court.

Lawsuit seeks to bar Donald Trump from acquiring any New York real estate for five years

New York Attorney General Letitia James is looking to bar former President Donald Trump and his three adult children from acquiring real estate in New York for five years, a move that could deal a major blow to the family's business empire. In a civil lawsuit filed on Wednesday, James accused Trump and his business of engaging in years of deliberate financial fraud "to obtain a host of economic benefits." According to the Office of the Attorney General, Trump and the Trump Organization intentionally created more than 200 false and misleading valuations of assets in annual statements to defraud financial institutions from 2011 to 2021. The 214-page complaint comes after a three-year investigation into fraud across nearly two dozen Trump properties and assets.

After a top-to-toe renovation of their 1870s Clinton Hill two-family townhouse that spanned two years (read all about it here), 6sqft writer Michelle Cohen and her husband, Stanley Peck, decided to relegate sprucing up their brownstone backyard to “phase 2.” They’d already added a rear terrace with steps to the yard and created a small roof deck above their lower extension. A home that is one part of the sprawling New Jersey estate built by the Straus Family, the owners of Macy's, is now available. Located in Red Bank at 310 Cooper Road, Cobble Close Farm is a 13-acre estate with French Norman-style buildings, including several residences. The estate was built in the 1920s by Herbert Nathan Straus and his wife Therese Kuhn Straus; Herbert's father was Isidor Straus, the co-owner of Macy's who died on the Titanic. Once one of New York's tallest office buildings, One Wall Street now boasts a new superlative: the largest office-to-residential conversion in the city's history. Developed by Macklowe Properties, the 566-unit tower sits within the restored former Irving Trust Company Building, designed in 1931 by famed architect Ralph Walker. New images of the residences and innovative co-working space were released this week, providing a first peek inside one of the city's most unique new residential buildings.

The only known Westchester house designed by famed American architect Wilson Eyre is for sale. Asking $2,225,000, the home at 573 North Broadway was modeled after country homes seen by Eyre during an 1895 trip to England. Built in 1910, the single-family brick home was nearly demolished in 2007, but a design-savvy couple bought the home and completed a restoration of the historic property.

Here are Manhattan’s 10 best-selling residential buildings in Q2 2022

The second quarter of 2022 is expected to be Manhattan's strongest on record due to a surge in the borough's ultraluxury market, according to a market report from CityRealty. While transaction volume decreased 11 percent year-over-year, an increased demand, low inventory, and a small number of new residential developments have caused prices to rise. Between April and June, the average sales price for a residential unit in Manhattan was $2.19 million, up 9 percent from its $2 million average in Q2 of 2021. José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup on Tuesday opened Zaytinya, a new restaurant and hotel in-room dining option at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad. The restaurant features a mezze menu inspired by Turkish, Greek, and Lebanese cuisines in a 140-seat street-level restaurant with a mod-meets Mediterranean interior design courtesy of David Rockwell's Rockwell Group. The Nomad location will be the second for Zaytinya, which first opened in 2002 in Washington, DC.

Average Manhattan rent tops $5,000 for the first time ever

According to a June market report, the average rental tab in Manhattan has surpassed $5,000 for the first time in the city's history, the New York Post reports. The recent numbers, compiled by Douglas Elliman and Miller Samuel, show that the average Manhattan rent was $5,058 per month in June, a 1.7 percent uptick from the $4,975 May average–and a head-spinning 29 percent year-over-year spike from the $3,922 June 2021 average.
