Cynthia Nixon expands downtown real estate holdings with $1.5M East Village co-op

Earlier this morning, 6sqft reported that "Grey's Anatomy" actor Justin Chambers had spent $1.54 million on a rather bland East Village loft in Ageloff Tower at 172 East 4th Street. Interestingly, another big-name television star has also picked up a residence at Ageloff, this time at its sister building at 141 East 3rd Street. LLNYC reports that "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon is listed on property records for a similarly unassuming apartment that sold for $1.49 million. The buyers are Nixon and her wife Christine Marinoni and another couple, their friends Michael Growler and William Bowers (Growler worked as a dresser for the "Sex and the City" movies). Based on the joint ownership, and the fact that Nixon has owned a $3.25 million residence at 10 Bleecker Street since 2012, it's likely that this is more of an investment.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Justin Chambers picks up unassuming $1.5M East Village co-op

After 13 years of dramatics on "Grey's Anatomy," you'd think actor Justin Chambers would opt for a bit more of a trophy apartment, but he and his wife Keisha (it's actually her name on the property records) have spent $1.54 million on an unassuming East Village pad at Ageloff Tower, one of the few large, pre-war co-ops in the neighborhood. As the Observer point out, the couple will likely use the residence as a pied-à-terre since it's only two bedrooms and they have five children and three dogs.

George and Amal Clooney snag high-floor condo in Norman Foster’s Midtown tower

The Clooneys are moving to Midtown. Sources tell the Post that the power couple has just purchased an apartment at the glassy Norman Foster-designed One Hundred East Fifty Third Street. The pair had apparently toured the $65 million, two-floor penthouse but ultimately opted for something a bit more modest on a lower but still high floor.

Macro Sea’s David Belt takes us inside New Lab, an 84,000-square-foot thinkspace in the Navy Yard

The Brooklyn Navy Yard has since its inception acted as a pole for the cutting edge and creative, from its time as the "The Can-Do Shipyard" where U.S. warships assembled, to present day as urban farmers, photographers and filmmakers carve out spaces for themselves on the campus' more than 300 acres. But the latest most notable addition to the Navy Yard is most certainly New Lab. New Lab is the creation of Macro Sea (who many will remember brought dumpster pools to NYC a few years ago) and is a revolutionary hub that turns an 84,000-square-foot former shipping building into a thinkspace for nearly 300 engineers and entrepreneurs working in advanced hardware and robotics. Here, members whose work include everything from designing nano microscopes to using synthetic biology to engineer cities can take their ideas from concept to prototype to production under one roof. It's what the founders are calling "a breakthrough ecosystem of shared resources." In this 6sqft feature, we speak to New Lab's co-founder and Macro Sea Executive Director and founder David Belt. David is also the founder and Managing Partner of DBI, which is currently managing the realization of the Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center, amongst other high-profile projects around the city. Ahead, he takes us through the new facility and gives us some intel on what inspired the design, the cutting edge companies that have taken up space, and what he ultimately hopes to achieve with New Lab.

Meryl Streep’s former Greenwich Village townhouse asks $28.5M

Before buying a penthouse at Tribeca's 92 Laight Street in 2004 for $9 million, three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep called this lovely townhouse in Greenwich Village home. She purchased the five-story brick residence at 19 West 12th Street for $2.1 million in 1995, and then sold it 10 years later for $9.1 million to heiress Libet Johnson, according to LL NYC. Built in 1895, the home retained much of its historic detail when Streep resided there, but it's since been given an uber-contemporary makeover, most notably the Calacatta marble master bathroom that the listing describes as "unequivocally one of the most sensational in the city."

Tribeca artists' mecca Pearl Paint--the 80-year-old art supply retailer at 308 Canal Street--closed just over two years ago, and in May, Trans World Equities filed permits to convert one of the buildings into four "bespoke full-floor lofts" and build a two-story addition above the 150-year-old cast-iron structure, now going by 42 Lispenard Street. Two are already in contract, but the newly-listed penthouse awaits, with a prospective winter 2016 occupancy date.

New views of curvaceous 15 Hudson Yards ahead of this week’s sales launch

15 Hudson Yards, the first of two residential towers that Related Companies and Oxford Properties have planned for the massive complex, started its climb into the far west side skyline back in March, and now, seven months later, it's readying for a sales launch this week. According to a press release, condos will start at about $2 million for one-bedrooms and go up to $30 million for the penthouses. To coincide with the 285 market-rate condos hitting the market (there will also be 106 affordable rentals, for which details have yet to be released), YIMBY has gotten its hands on new renderings of the 910-foot building, which, as 6sqft previously described, has been dubbed the "Morph Tower" for its "curvaceous and feminine design" from Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Rockwell Group. The images provide new views of the bundled quad of cylinders that make up its body, as well as its rectilinear base that will abut the Shed.

Opulent private West Chelsea mansion takes shape in Karim Rashid’s former neon-filled pad

The "unbridled luxury" promised for a townhouse at 357 West 17th street is taking shape. Architect Andres Escobar was tapped by Wonder Works Construction Corp., developer of Williamsburg's pricey Oosten condominium complex, to turn the five-floor, 25-foot-wide building into a 12,000-square-foot mansion with five bedrooms, eight (!) baths, a glass elevator, a swimming pool and a two-car garage. Wonder Works purchased the West Chelsea property for $9.35 million in 2014 from designer/developer Karim Rashid, who had lived in–and occasionally rented out–a candy-colored, neon-furnished loft in the existing townhouse. Now, CityRealty.com reveals new renderings from Wonder Works showing a rooftop deck, a chandelier-graced library, a sleek two-car garage and more.

Downton Abbey director lists $5M Chelsea penthouse with glorious outdoor space

This duplex penthouse, located at the Chelsea condo 263 Ninth Avenue, has been listed for sale by Michael Engler, a director who has earned Emmy nominations for his work on Downton Abbey, Sex and the City, and 30 Rock. $4.95 million will get you his customized loft with a "private oasis" of outdoor space--nearly 1,000 square feet over a top-floor, south- and west-facing terrace. Engler owns the apartment with his husband--Stribling broker Steven Sumser, also the listing agent for the apartment--which they bought in 2006 for $2.545 million.
