Barbara Corcoran buys Carnegie Hill penthouse for $16M
October has been an eventful month in real estate for Barbara Corcoran, founder of the Corcoran Group and star of "Shark Tank," as the mogul adds a penthouse to her portfolio. As first reported by The Real Deal, and confirmed by property records, Corcoran purchased a penthouse at 1016 Fifth Avenue in Carnegie Hill for $16 million in an off-market deal. Just three weeks earlier, she sold her home at 1158 Fifth Avenue for $1.5 million over ask after just one day on the market.

Carnegie Hill co-op owned by FDR’s granddaughter lists for $7M
The Upper East Side home of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's granddaughter hit the market this week. Sara Delano Roosevelt Whitney Wilford, the daughter of Betsey Cushing Roosevelt Whitney and James Roosevelt, the oldest son of FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt, lived in this nine-room residence at 1120 Fifth Avenue in Carnegie Hill. Wilford, who died in 2021, was a psychologist and professor at Sarah Lawrence College for more than three decades. Asking $6,995,000, the 3,000-square-foot co-op has picture-perfect views of Central Park and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir.

Grand, Under-Construction Carnegie Hill Townhouse Could be Yours for $18M
Pre-war architecture is alive and well on the Upper East Side. At 178 East 94th Street, along a bucolic, tree-lined stretch of Carnegie Hill, a six-story, 7,650-square-foot, single-family home is squeezing into place as if it's been on the brownstone block for decades. The 36.5-foot-wide home is being built and designed by Daniel Kohs, owner of Long Island-based Madik Realty.
Called the Danville House, the home hit the market earlier this month for $18 million. The sole exterior rendering accompanying the listing shows a red-brick exterior accentuated by vertical piers, culminating into pointed and spherical pinnacles. It's crowned near its apex by an open colonnade not unlike that of Murray Hill's Morgan Lofts.

According to city records filed this morning, Italian billionaire (the 1,067th in the world, and the 22nd in Italy) Pier Luigi Loro Piana just purchased a stunning Carnegie Hill co-op at 980 Fifth Avenue through a listing held by Sotheby's.
The Italian fashion magnate crossed the billionaire's mark just last July when he and his brother sold an 80% stake in the Loro Piana fashion line to French billionaire Bernard Arnault's LVMH for $2.6 billion. With plenty of closets in this 3BR/3.5BA, including a 100-square-foot dressing room, the Pianas will have lots of room to store some of the luxurious cashmere and wool suits and sweaters that brought their family such great wealth today. The beautiful home also boasts stunning views of Central Park, and the building itself sparked quite a bit of controversy back in 1966 when it was constructed.

Lincoln Center: From Dutch enclave and notorious San Juan Hill to a thriving cultural center
The glossy cultured patina of Lincoln Center reveals nearly nothing of what the neighborhood once was, and New Yorkers, accustomed to the on-going cycle of building and demolition, have likely forgotten (or never knew) about the lively San Juan Hill neighborhood that was demolished to make way for the famous cultural center. $14M Gilded Age Mansion in Murray Hill Was the Home of J.P. Morgan’s Attorney
Most of New York City's grand and historic homes have been altered for modern-day use as apartments, libraries, hotels, diplomatic buildings and the like. And when it comes to those that have remained as opulent single- or multi-family homes, most have changed hands so many times that we don't know much about their history. That is not the case for this massive 9,300-square-foot townhouse across the street from the Morgan Library.
The home was originally the residence of J.P. Morgan's attorney John Trevor, Sr. and is currently in use as a 10-unit apartment building–albeit a rather special one with some unique spaces like a private office and a gorgeous rear parlor with symphony-ready acoustics and 13-foot ceilings. Whoever purchases the home, on the market for $14 million, could create a vast five-story mansion (there's already an elevator), or any number of alternate configurations–but they'll still have great sound in that back parlor.

Beaux-Arts office building in the Flatiron District to become 20 luxury condos
A former 1920s publishing house in the Flatiron District will turn into 20 boutique condos, becoming New York City's latest office-to-residential conversion. Located at 114 East 25th Street, the 14-story Beaux-Arts building—now known as Armorie—has been reimagined by developer Adellco and design firm Andre Kikoski Architecture (AKA) to preserve its historic charm while transforming it into a collection of modern, high-end residences. The condo includes one- to four-bedroom lofts, topped by a luxurious penthouse with a private rooftop terrace.

This beautifully renovated limestone townhouse in Manhattan's Carnegie Hill, adjacent to Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was built in the 1890s as part of a row of four mansions for members of New York City's wealthiest families. The home at 9 East 82nd Street, now asking $31 million, was first owned by stockbroker J. Prentice Kellogg. The home's facade, built in the Neoclassical style, features a raised portico entrance and a secondary service entrance. A fifth floor was added to the 25-foot-wide townhouse in 1920.
