Burn calories sitting at your desk with HOVR

October 10, 2016

Our bodies are designed to move, yet most of us spend our days sitting at a desk, staring at a screen. But here’s a new device that claims to help counter that inertia by producing unconscious movements that can help keep you fit while answering emails. While it might look like some silly exercise device being offered on a late night television informercial, HOVR promises to burn calories by creating healthy movements without mental distraction.

The simple device consists of a pair of disks for your feet connected to a bar that hangs on a strap. Patent pending, the HOVR activates muscles by getting your lower body to move and engaging the core using gravity, kinetic energy and harmonic motion.

Its makers estimate that in an eight-hour day, HOVR can burn about the same number of calories as walking leisurely for 45 minutes (depending on the pace), and it will improve cardiovascular and joint health and reduce venous stasis.

Staring at $ 150 on Indiegogo, HOVR comes in either a freestanding version to use while lounging, or one for connecting to the desk.
