John Berry, the former Ambassador to Australia under President Obama, has just listed his renovated FiDi co-op at 145 Nassau Street for $2,895,000. Located in the landmarked cast-iron, terra cotta, and red brick Potter Building, constructed in 1886 near City Hall (then known as Newspaper Row), this one-bedroom-plus-mezzanine apartment combines downtown loft living with the opulence of the city’s grandest residences.

Berry, who was the first openly gay U.S. ambassador to a G-20 nation, has lived in the co-op with his husband Curtis Yee since 2016, as Mansion Global first reported. The couple was drawn to the cast-iron columns and grand living space, they told the website.

Pass through the entry gallery and dining area into a dramatic double-height great room. The apartment’s 2,470-square-foot living space is framed by ceilings of nearly 15 feet, tall cast-iron Corinthian columns, ornate plaster details, and walls of 11-foot-tall cast-iron clad windows.

The kitchen is as sleek and elegant as it is functional with top-of-the-line appliances and solid cherry custom millwork, anchored by a massive Carrara marble-topped island.

In the bedroom suite, five closets can certainly hold a diplomat’s wardrobe. A classic vintage-style bath offers a soaking bathtub, shower, and marble vanity.

Ascend a stairway crafted of marble and cast iron into the space-expanding mezzanine. This picturesque perch is currently used as a home office, library, and sleeping area. There’s a half bath up here as well.

Additional premium perks include a washer and dryer, hardwood and stone flooring, custom window treatments, and bespoke cabinetry and closets. Radiator heat and window A/C are old-school and functional–a reminder of the building’s many layers of history.

The co-op building is next door to City Hall Park, with Tribeca around the corner. Amenities include a landscaped roof terrace with 360-degree views, a central laundry room, a bicycle room, and storage lockers.
