This recently rebuilt two-unit townhouse at 19 Conselyea Street in the heart of Williamsburg is both understated and exceptional. Set on a 28-foot-wide lot with a legal curb cut, the 3,198-square-foot home, asking $5,200,000, has a private driveway, a detached garage/studio with a glass wall that opens onto a landscaped garden, and a finished roof deck. Behind a stylish deep blue facade, a considered renovation has a mid-century modern feel, with rich wood and stone adding depth every bit as substantial as the ornate 19th-century flourishes more often seen in the borough’s townhouses.

Williamsburg’s townhouse market is mostly limited to small wood-frame houses on narrow lots, and few offer private parking. Also a rarity: a house completely rebuilt from the ground up over several years by its owners rather than developers with their bottom line in mind.
Built in 1880, this unusual home has new plumbing, roofing, and climate systems. Imported custom triple-pane windows keep city sounds outside.
Immediately notable from the street for its stunning facade of blue-grey and oak-toned aluminum, the home’s modern comforts begin outside. Heated mats under the sidewalk keep ice from forming, and entry vestibules have heated floors. Windows on three sides provide northern, southern, and eastern light.

The top two floors contain the owners’ residence, starting on the first floor, where ceilings over nine feet, wide-plank white oak floors, and custom walnut millwork frame the main space. Windows on three sides mean all-day light. An Ortal gas fireplace adds winter warmth.
The Valcucine kitchen features leathered black granite anchored by a burnished walnut waterfall bar. Appliances include a Wolf induction cooktop, a Thermador oven, and downdraft ventilation.
At the back is a dining area with a door that opens onto a terrace overlooking the courtyard. Off to one side, sliding floor-to-ceiling walnut panels conceal a compact home office.

Upstairs, ceilings over 10 feet top the south-facing primary suite. A sleek carved mahogany wall anchors the room. In the bath, a full wall of handmade emerald tile backs a floating walnut vanity with twin Kallista sinks. A Grohe thermostatic shower and Nero Marquina marble floors add spa comfort.

On the other side of this floor, two additional bedrooms overlook the garden. A second bath features a Duravit soaking tub and heated floors. There is also a dedicated laundry room. A floating white oak staircase ascends to a roof deck with open neighborhood views.

On the home’s garden level is a separate two-bedroom apartment. This self-contained space has the same walnut, quartz, and marble custom finishes as the upper floors; it can serve as a rental or guest unit or be easily integrated into the rest of the home. In the cellar is a second laundry area, storage, and mechanicals.
In the back is another covetable townhouse perk: a landscaped courtyard garden features a louvered Hansø pergola for three-season dining and entertaining.

A detached garage with a curb cut is a rare find in the neighborhood. But this isn’t just any garage: This charming modern outbuilding, currently used as a private studio, is framed by skylights and exposed brick, with a wall of folding glass doors opening onto the courtyard. Within, a kitchenette and full bath make it an infinitely flexible volume.

The home’s current owners documented the home’s renovation on YouTube, and at @back.to.the.studs. After purchasing the property in 2010, they lived in the rear carriage house before construction began.
The pair, Brad Hurtado and Sean Hingston, have spent over three decades restoring homes, with 19 Conselyea being their most ambitious to date.
