Lottery opens for 144 mixed-income units at new Chelsea rental with lots of green space, from $1,329/month

Applications are now being accepted for 144 mixed-income apartments at the currently under-construction development known as Ruby at 241 West 28th Street in Chelsea. Upon completion later this year, the 25-story mixed-use building will have 480 rental apartments, 8,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, landscaped gardens, and an impressive menu of amenities including rooftop pools, terraces, and lounges. The affordable units are available to New Yorkers earning between 70 and 130 percent of the area median income, or between $48,138 for a single person and $130,046 for a five-person household. Apartments range from $1,329/month for studios to $3,793 for two bedrooms.

Sunset Park senior rental launches lottery for 57 affordable apartments

A housing lottery launched this week for 57 affordable apartments at a new senior housing project in Sunset Park. Located at 6309 4th Avenue on the site of the former Zion Lutheran Church, the Sunset Ridge Senior Apartments comprises a new nine-story building and two existing adjacent townhomes. Applicants must have at least one household member who is 62 years of age or older, qualify for Section 8 benefits, and earn no more than $60,500 as a family of three. Eligible New Yorkers will pay 30 percent of their income for the available studio and one-bedroom apartments.

Wellness-focused housing development with 238 affordable units coming to Bed-Stuy

A wellness-focused housing development is coming to Bed-Stuy. The city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development last week selected the "The Steps at Saratoga" proposal from RiseBoro, IMPACCT Brooklyn, and Urbane Development. Planned for the corner of Fulton Street and Saratoga Avenue, the project consists of two new buildings with 238 affordable apartments, including 158 units for low-income families and 80 for seniors. The development will offer residents several wellness and food justice programs, including access to a food co-op, a demonstration kitchen, a greenhouse, and a center dedicated to elderly care.

Tech and media power couple’s West Village townhouse asks $11M

Who wouldn't want a townhouse in the West Village with a $2.5 million renovation and a glass-enclosed rooftop office and deck? Beth Comstock, the current owner of the house at 62 Jane Street, has been lucky enough to live in the five-story home since she and her husband, tech executive Chris Travers, bought it for $5.75 million in 2012. Comstock was the first woman to be named vice chair of General Electric, a position she held after a long career as a media executive. The couple has listed the property for $10.995 million, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Snøhetta-designed Bronx library features a green glass facade inspired by trees

World-renowned architecture firm Snøhetta last week unveiled its design for a new library in the Bronx. The 12,000-square-foot Westchester Square Library, which will sit next to the historic Huntington Free Library on Glebe Avenue, will feature a striking green glass facade with abstract views of the neighborhood's trees, a way to pay homage to the Bronx's status as the city's "greenest borough," according to the firm. The library is being developed with the city's Department of Design and Construction and the New York Public Library.

Derek Jeter’s lakefront ‘castle’ heads for auction, Statue of Liberty replica included

In 2018, 6sqft reported that the 50,000-square-foot compound on four acres at 14 Lake Shore Road in Greenwood Lake, N.Y., owned by former Yankee shortstop and Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, was on the market for $14.75 million. The baseball star reportedly purchased the property, known as Tiedemann Castle after its previous owners, for $425,000 in around 2003. The last 15 years have been spent renovating the "castle." The Wall Street Journal reports that the property, which has been on and off the market for several years, will be heading to the auction block on December 15, with a minimum bid of $6.5 million. The property has a familiar connection for Jeter: His grandfather, Sonny Connors, was raised there as the adopted son of John and Julia Tiedemann, who had purchased the 1903 estate in 1952.
