Iconic New York City culinary institution Russ & Daughters is opening a new outpost in Hudson Yards next year. The 109-year-old mainstay of the Lower East Side will serve its famed Jewish delicacies on the ground floor of 50 Hudson Yards, a Foster + Partners-designed skyscraper that topped out last year. As the New York Post first reported, the new location, opening in the spring of 2023, will take up 4,500 square feet and offer hand-sliced fish, a glass-enclosed bagel bakery, and a caviar and champagne bar.

Located at 555 West 38th Street in Hudson Yards, Lyra offers its residents thoughtfully crafted apartments and an unparalleled collection of amenities. New Yorkers earning 70 and 130 percent of the area median income, or between $47,966 for a single person and $187,330 for a household of five, are eligible to apply for the apartments, which range from $1,399/month studios to $3,397/month two-bedrooms.

Manhattan's largest rental development under construction launched a housing lottery this week for 235 mixed-income apartments. Located slightly south of Hudson Yards at 601 West 29th Street, the 60-story luxury high-rise is part of a two-building development known as 3ELEVEN. Developed by Douglaston Development and designed by FXCollaborative, the massive project includes 938 total apartments and more than 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 40, 60, and 100 percent of the area median income can apply for the units, ranging from $690/month studios to $2,342/month two-bedrooms.

A new high-end cocktail bar is opening this weekend on the 101st floor of 30 Hudson Yards, just above the sky-high observation deck Edge. Located within the David Rockwell-designed restaurant Peak, "Peakaboo" is an upscale bar offering guests a nightlife experience complete with a live DJ and incredible views of the city. Run by hospitality group RHC and set to open on February 5, Peakaboo will feature a unique selection of food and drink that builds off of Peak's menus.

A never-lived-in-before luxury penthouse in Hudson Yards has been listed for $70,000/month, a record-breaking asking rent for the neighborhood. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom apartment is on the 87th floor of 15 Hudson Yards, a 914-foot-tall tower designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Measuring over 5,000 square feet, the unit is one of the largest residences in Hudson Yards. The massive apartment is the result of combining two units, 87C and 87D, which were purchased by the same private buyer pre-construction, combined, and renovated. The previous most expensive rental in the area was last asking $32,000/month.

World’s highest outdoor building climb to open in NYC atop Hudson Yards’ Edge

If simply standing on the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere isn't enough of a thrill, how about scaling the outside of a supertall skyscraper? On Tuesday, Edge, the 100th-floor sky deck that opened at 30 Hudson Yards last spring, debuted "City Climb," a ticketed adventure that challenges visitors to cross a series of open-edged outdoor platforms and stairs along the top of the tower, which stands over 1,200 feet tall. When it officially opens on November 9, City Climb will become the highest external building climb in the world.

Hudson Yards’ Vessel may close permanently after fourth suicide in two years

The 150-foot climbable sculpture in Hudson Yards may shut down permanently after a teenager jumped to his death from the structure on Thursday. Vessel, an interactive public art piece designed by Thomas Heatherwick that opened in 2019 as the centerpiece of the $25 billion development, temporarily closed in January after three suicides, reopening a few months later with a new "buddy system." The death of a 14-year-old boy on Thursday marks the fourth suicide at Vessel in less than two years.

Hudson Yards' 1,100-foot-high observation deck Edge, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, announced a special partnership with Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation to celebrate Pride month. There will be a colorful art installation on the Skyline Steps that encourages visitors to share messages of kindness, affirmation, and love. In addition, visitors can purchase "Born This Way" cocktails and guest packages, tickets to "Sky High" Pride Yoga, and more in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. Since 1936, Kossar's Bagels & Bialys has served Jewish specialty foods on the Lower East Side. For the first time, the iconic shop, considered the oldest bialy bakery in the United States, will open a second location in New York City. The bakery has signed a 1,200-square-foot lease on the ground floor of Ohm, a mixed-income rental building at 312 11th Avenue in Hudson Yards developed by Douglaston Development.

Hudson Yards’ Vessel will reopen with a buddy system in place

In January, Hudson Yards' 150-foot climbable sculpture Vessel closed after three people jumped to their deaths from the structure. According to a report in Gothamist, the attraction will reopen this Friday, but with new protocols in place. First, single people will no longer be able to enter Vessel; they will have to visit in groups of two or more. And instead of being free, most time slots will now cost $10 per person.

At 1,010 feet, 35 Hudson Yards is the tallest tower in the west side mega-development and the fifth-tallest residential building in all of New York City. And its penthouse is also a record-setter, offering the highest private terrace in the whole city. As was first reported by the NY Post, the five-bedroom home on the building's 90th floor has just hit the market for $59 million. The terrace sits 920 feet above street level.

Take a yoga class 1,100 feet in the sky at Hudson Yards’ Edge

Looking to take your yoga practice to new heights? Hudson Yards' Edge, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, is bringing back its "sky-high" yoga experience next week. Run by Equinox, the classes take place on the 100th-floor observation deck of 30 Hudson Yards, 1,100 feet above ground. The first weekly event will take place on Thursday, May 6th. The $50 tickets go on sale this Friday and will be released on a week-by-week basis.

The Shed reopens in Hudson Yards next month with live music and comedy shows

As spring returns to New York City, so does its arts and culture scene. The Shed, the Hudson Yards performance center with a distinct moveable shell, announced this week it will reopen with a five-night indoor performance series kicking off on April 2. Following state guidelines, the capacity will be limited to 150 people and all attendees must present confirmation of a negative coronavirus test within 72 hours or vaccination completed at least two weeks before the event.

Bjarke Ingels' new office tower with twisting terraces officially topped out at Hudson Yards this week. Aptly named The Spiral, the 66-story skyscraper reached its 1,031-foot pinnacle, developer Tishman Speyer announced on Tuesday. Upon its completion in 2022, the tower at 66 Hudson Boulevard will stretch a full block between West 34th and 35th Streets and contain 2.8 million square feet of office space and ground-floor retail.

Hudson Yards’ 150-foot Vessel temporarily closes after third suicide

After the third suicide in less than a year was reported at the Vessel this week, the 150-foot climbable structure has temporarily closed. On Monday, a 21-year-old man from Texas jumped to his death from the bronzed steel and concrete sculpture. Hudson Yards developer Related Companies is now looking to address ways to prevent future tragedies at the Manhattan site, as Patch first reported.

101st-floor restaurant at 30 Hudson Yards will reopen for indoor dining next month

The restaurant on the 101st floor of 30 Hudson Yards will reopen for indoor dining on October 6. Peak, which first opened to the public in March and then closed later that month because of the coronavirus pandemic, has again started taking reservations for its massive 10,000-square-foot dining room, which sits one floor above Edge, the 1,100-foot-high outdoor sky deck. The restaurant said it will not take any parties larger than 10 guests and will not accept cash payments.

Hudson Yards announced that both Vessel and Edge reopen today. The 150-foot-tall climbable public art piece and the observation deck that's 1,100 feet in the air (the highest in the Western Hemisphere) have been closed since March, only two days after Edge officially opened to the public. To raise awareness and funds for the critically endangered gorilla species, public artists Gillie and Marc Schattner have created a massive sculpture of the animal that arrived this week in Hudson Yards' Bella Abzug Park. Titled King Nyani, Swahili for gorilla, it's the world's largest bronze gorilla sculpture and can fit two to three humans just in its hands.

Hudson Yards reveals two huge murals near the Vessel

As part of its HYxOffTheWall initiative to bring "vibrant and interactive displays and murals" to Hudson Yards, the mega-development has revealed two new public art installations that will remain on view for the rest of the year. Street artist ELLE worked on a 2,900-square-foot semicircular stretch of wall, and mural artist KEY DETAIL worked on a four-sided standing rectangle that rises behind it. According to a press release, the two works "celebrate inclusion and togetherness, inspired by a belief that New York’s happiest moments are the ones we spend together—something we have been consistently reminded of during our time apart."

Neiman Marcus is closing its flagship at Hudson Yards

Neiman Marcus is closing its massive flagship store at Hudson Yards just weeks after filing for bankruptcy in May and a little over a year after first opening at the development. The retailer will also permanently close three other locations, two stores in Florida and one in Washington, according to the Dallas Morning News. Hudson Yards developers Related Companies and Oxford Properties have already started marketing the 190,000-square-foot space as office space.
