Iconic New York City culinary institution Russ & Daughters is opening a new outpost in Hudson Yards next year. The 109-year-old mainstay of the Lower East Side will serve its famed Jewish delicacies on the ground floor of 50 Hudson Yards, a Foster + Partners-designed skyscraper that topped out last year. As the New York Post first reported, the new location, opening in the spring of 2023, will take up 4,500 square feet and offer hand-sliced fish, a glass-enclosed bagel bakery, and a caviar and champagne bar.

“This newest Russ & Daughters will provide an immersive appetizing experience that celebrates our roots in the Lower East Side and the innovative spirit of New York,” said Niki Russ Federman, who is a fourth-generation owner of Russ & Daughters along with cousin Josh Russ Tupper. “We’re still a family business that continues to serve four generations of New Yorkers and visitors.”

The new restaurant will have a seat-yourself dining area and a rentable private event space. The hand-sliced fish counter will use a take-a-number ticketing system. Like existing Russ & Daughters locations, the Hudson Yards shop will feature “hand-painted lightboxes, neon signs, original artwork and appetizing showcases.”

Russ & Daughters was established in 1907 by Joel Russ, a Polish-Jewish immigrant who built up the business from a pushcart to a brick-and-mortar store on the Lower East Side. In addition to its LES locations on East Houston Street and Orchard Street, Russ & Daughters also operates a storefront in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Rising 1,011 feet tall, 50 Hudson Yards is one of the largest office buildings in NYC by square footage. Developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, the building topped out in February 2021. The 2.9 million square foot stone and glass skyscraper will be home to Meta, BlackRock, and other companies.

The new location will offer delivery within Hudson Yards and will be open seven days a week.

“We could not have envisioned a more perfect addition to NYC’s newest and most sought-after office building than the city’s quintessential purveyor of bagels and lox for more than 100 years,” Andrew Cantor, executive vice president of Related Companies, said. “The commitment to quality and service that Niki and Josh bring to every aspect of Russ & Daughters ensures that whether our tenants are grabbing breakfast on their way to the office, or enjoying a celebratory toast with friends and family, they are going to have an exceptional experience.”
