To wrap up 2020, Airbnb released the top 50 most wish-listed unique rentals across all 50 states. The properties range from an Alaskan log cabin under the Northern Lights to a pirate-themed cottage in California. Here in New York, those looking to get away were most taken with a luxury treehouse in the Adirondacks, complete with a cable bridge, outdoor fire pit, and waterfall. The property in the town of Remsen rents for $498 a night, but it's booked solid through March 2022!

J.P. Morgan’s 120-year-old ‘Great Camp Uncas’ in the Adirondacks finally sells

A new owner has claimed the stately Great Camp Uncas compound, nestled among the Adirondack forest and lakefront. The secluded property was built in 1895 by Brooklynite William West Durant, credited with perfecting the style of the Adirondack Great Camps of the Gilded Age. This particular camp—at 1,500 acres—was impressive enough for financier J.P. Morgan to purchase it in 1897. It was used as a vacation home for him and his family the next 50 years. Since then the property has traded hands several times, and a parcel of it last hit the market in 2015 for $3.25 million. An unsuccessful sales run caused a price drop, in 2016, to $2.7 million. According to the brokerage firm Franklin Ruttan, one lucky owner has snapped it up.

New York to consider dual bid by NYC and Lake Placid to host the Winter Olympics

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday the formation of a state committee to explore the possibility of a bid by Lake Placid and New York City to co-host a future Winter Olympics. The Lake Placid-New York City Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Exploratory Committee would evaluate the feasibility of a 2042 Winter Games concept–similar to this year's Olympics in Milan and Cortina–that made use of Lake Placid's Olympic legacy and New York City's global platform, according to the governor.

New condo planned for vacant Chelsea lot next to the High Line

A vacant Chelsea development site once tied to the late New York City developer Brandon Miller has sold for $53 million and will become a new condo building. Adirondack Capital Partners on Monday announced that Toll Brothers purchased the roughly 12,000-square-foot parcel at 118 10th Avenue from Benny Barmapov, with plans to build an 85,000-square-foot condominium. Miller had previously leased the site, with plans for a 10-story, 100,000-square-foot office building, according to The Real Deal.

City landmarks Village row house with deep ties to Black history and theater

A Greenwich Village row house, dating back to before the Civil War and closely tied to Black history and one of the city's first "Off-Off-Broadway" theaters, is New York City's newest landmark. The Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday voted to designate the Jacob Day Residence at 50 West 13th Street. The 1845 row house was home to Jacob Day, one of NYC's most successful 19th-century African American businessmen, and the 13th Street Repertory Company, one of the city's oldest Off-Off-Broadway theaters.

A bigger and better Pearl Street Triangle plaza opens in Dumbo

A plaza near the Manhattan Bridge in Dumbo has received a pedestrian-friendly makeover. The Dumbo Improvement District on Friday unveiled the newly designed Dumbo Archway Plaza, which enlarges the Pearl Street Triangle to create more permanent space for the public and less space for vehicles. New sculptural seating, custom umbrellas, and artwork have transformed the underutilized street and parking spot into a large plaza that seamlessly connects to the neighborhood's unofficial town square, the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge.

This week the state released the season's first Fall Foliage report, an annual guide and interactive map highlighting the progress of changing leaves across the Empire State. Based on observations by 85 volunteer leaf spotters, regions like the Adirondacks, Catskills, Thousand Island-Seaway, Capital-Saratoga, Central New York, Finger Lakes, and Greater Niagara are starting their colorful autumnal transformations.
