NYPD vetting 30-40 officers with ‘solid records’ for full-time Trump Tower detail

March 14, 2017

Although the President has not visited Trump Tower since his inauguration, the NYPD plans on increasing the number of officers who guard the tower after struggling with ways to effectively man the building. As reported by TMZ, the police department will choose between 30 and 40 full-time officers with “solid records” to work 12-hour shifts at the skyscraper.

While the president hasn’t returned, First Lady Melania and 10-year-old Barron Trump will continue to live in New York City until at least June, when Barron finishes school. It costs city taxpayers $150,000 per day for their personal security NYPD and FDNY detail.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, security measures are regularly reassessed and officers work with the president’s secret service detail. Despite the heightened security, there have been some lapses. As 6sqft covered, an Airbnb listing for an apartment at Trump Tower, which was posted in September, was not taken down from the website until March.
