Julianne Moore’s onetime West Village loft asks $4.3M

Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore bought a duplex loft at 345 West 13th Street in 1999 for just $911,500. After she and her husband, director Bart Freundlich, decided to upgrade to the West Village building's penthouse in 2002, they turned quite the profit, unloading the apartment for $1.95 million. The couple now live in a townhouse nearby at 335 West 11th Street, which they bought in 2003 for $3.5 million and subsequently renovated to the nines, but their original downtown abode is back on the market, this time asking $4.3 million, according to the Observer.

Nearly 9,000 apply for SpareRoom CEO’s $1/month shares in his $8M loft – meet two top applicants

When SpareRoom CEO and founder Rupert Hunt announced earlier this month that he was looking for two roommates to share his $8 million West Village apartment--both of whom would be paying just $1 a month--we knew the interest would be high. And after a "SpeedRoommating" session on the 19th, the room share service's version of speed dating, we've learned that a whopping 8,795 people applied for a chance to live in the triplex loft. According to a press release, Hunt is narrowing it down to 10 lucky finalists, and he'll be hosting them next week at house party, where he can learn more about them and see who gets along best.

Designation of South Village Historic District may mean approval for massive St. John’s Terminal project

The Landmarks Preservation Commission's plans to add 10 additional blocks to the South Village Historic District are at the top of the agenda for city preservationist groups. As Crains reports, the addition of the historic district is also a condition for a City Council vote in support of the St. John's Center development, a 1.7 million-square-foot, mixed-use project proposed for 550 Washington Street across the street from Pier 40 in Hudson River Park. That project requires the council's approval, and City Councilman Corey Johnson said in August that he'd vote for the project, proposed by developers Westbrook Partners and Atlas Capital Group, if the addition of the third and final phase of the historic district, currently bordered by Sixth Avenue, West Fourth Street, LaGuardia Place and Houston Street, goes forward. The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (GVSHP), among others, has pushed for the landmarking of what would be the city's first tenement-based historic district.

My 1,400sqft: Inside Puppet Maker Ralph Lee’s Live/Work Space in Westbeth Artists Housing

When the old Bell Telephone Laboratories building was transformed to the Westbeth affordable artists' housing in 1970, one of the original creatives to move in was Ralph Lee, a theater jack-of-all trades who is best known for his larger-than-life puppets and masks. His whimsical creations served as the props for the very first Village Halloween Parade, an event that has since grown into an annual, nationally-known event. Today, his characters from the early days of the parade adorn his eclectic live/work studio in Westbeth, where he still lives and continues to make puppets and masks for his company the Mettawee River Theatre. Ralph recently invited 6sqft into his space, where we got up close and personal with the puppets and were able to see how the magic happens.

‘The Chew’ host Michael Symon selling historic West Village townhouse for $5.8M

Chef Michael Symon--co-host of "The Chew," Food Network personality, and restauranteur--picked up the narrow, turn-of-the-century townhouse at 58 Downing Street in April 2015 for $5.14 million, but just a year and a half later, he's put the West Village home back on the market, reports Curbed. He's not looking to make much of a profit, listing it for only $5.8 million, despite what the listing calls a renovation "for a contemporary lifestyle" and its plethora of historic details and stylish decor.

Bethenny Frankel checks out Robert DeNiro’s former $20M West Village penthouse

It hasn't even been a week since Bethenny Frankel triumphantly sold her $7 million Tribeca loft in just one day, but the Skinny Girl is already back on the hunt. The Post reports that she and "Million Dollar Listing's" Fredrik Eklund (he's also responsible for her recent sale) checked out a $20 million West Village penthouse yesterday. The incredible, 11,000-square-foot duplex at 165 Perry Street--which boasts glass floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, several landscaped terraces around a central courtyard, and a seven-car garage--was famously rented by Robert DeNiro for two years after his Upper West Side apartment caught fire in 2012.

On a postcard-pretty block of the West Village, the single-family townhouse at 66 Charles Street was recently cleared of all imperfections in a top-to-toe reconstruction by noted architect David Hottenroth and master builder Hobbs Incorporated, while retaining many of its original details. The 1899 Italianate-style home offers 3,600 square feet of covetable Village townhouse living with every modern comfort and convenience to make daily life easy. The house sold for just under $8 million in 2014, and now, after its multi-year renovation it's asking $14.5 million.

Model Erin Heatherton runs afoul of condo board, lists her chic West Village pad for $2.85M

If former Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret model—and onetime Leonardo DiCaprio arm candy—Erin Heatherton loves food and fashion, she must have followed her heart when she renovated the 1,345 square-foot, two-bedroom Village condo at 1 Morton Square. The just-rustic-enough interiors feature authentic details like exposed beams and stacked wood in the kitchen, but a La Cornue range and a massive custom walk-in closet are the stuff of dreams. Heatherton purchased the apartment in 2012 for $1.72 million, but reportedly her not-model behavior regarding loud music irked the condo board so much they sued her—and then there's the matter of her delinquent condo fees, according to the New York Post. She's now selling the pretty pad for $2.85 million.

Yes, you read that correctly--you can move into a luxury 3,400-square-foot West Village loft that cost $8 million and pay only $1 month. Metro brings us the deal of the century, which was posted by Rupert Hunt, Founder and CEO of SpareRoom.com, a platform that helps people find roommates and spare rooms. Hunt recently moved to NYC and is looking for two roommates to share the loft, which is located on Bleecker Street just off 7th Avenue South. Unbelievably, each of the available bedrooms has its own walk-in closet, private bathroom, and office area, as well as access to the massive, open-plan lounge/dining room/kitchen and the 1,500-square-foot roof terrace with 360-degree views and a 17-seat barbecue area. Why, you ask, is Hunt charging just a $1 in a neighborhood where rooms rent for around $1,800 (and probably much more for a giant, tricked-out apartment like this)? For starters, he doesn't need the money, and he's also really excited about living with roommates.

$5.75M Federal rowhouse in the West Village was once owned by Aaron Burr

It seems the hype of "Hamilton" the musical is having an affect on the real estate market. Just five months ago, the former East Village home of Alexander Hamilton, Jr. sold for $10 million, and now a rowhouse across town in the West Village that was once owned by Aaron Burr, who famously killed his father, is hitting the market for $5.75 million. The Post reports that the charming brick, Federal-style home at 17 Commerce Street sits on land that Burr owned just north of his country estate during the turn of the 18th century.

Six months after $6M buy, supermodel Irina Shayk lists 150 Charles condo as a $20,000 rental

When Sports Illustrated supermodel Irina Shayk bought a $6 million condo at celebrity favorite 150 Charles Street back in February, it was rumored that she'd be shacking up there with boyfriend Bradley Cooper. But it looks like she was getting in on the investment game; only six months later she's put the two-bedroom spread on the rental market for $20,000 a month. The Observer reports that Shayk never even moved in to the West Village building, where Ben Stiller, Jon Bon Jovi, and fashion photographer Steven Klein have also purchased units. This could be because she's still living at her other West Village condo at 166 Perry Street, which she listed last December for $4 million. Regardless, the new tenant of this sleek abode will be in good company.

Rupert Murdoch’s Multi-Terraced West Village Townhouse Sells for $27.5M in Just Five Months

Last August 6sqft reported that News Corp. head and Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch had put his West Village townhouse–the one he'd bought just five months prior for $25 million–on the market. Now, just five months after listing the 25-foot-wide, four-story brick home for $28.9M, the house has found a buyer, the New York Observer reports. Whomever is behind the entity known as West 11th Street, LLC has purchased the 6,500-square-foot Greek Revival manse for $27.5 million. The deal represents a $2.5M profit for Murdoch (and we all know how much he needs a few more million).

Acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who tragically died from a drug overdose in February 2014, was a regular fixture in his West Village community, sitting out on his stoop, frequenting local coffee shops, and helping to establish the neighborhood's LAByrinth Theater. He moved into his apartment at the Pickwick House, a former 19th century printing plant, in October 2013, after splitting from his wife. The unit first hit the market for $10,500 a month just a month after his passing, but even after dropping to $9,995, it couldn't find a tenant. It's now trying again reports the Post, asking $10,250 a month.
