Rent in the Greenwich Village building where Alexander Hamilton purportedly spent his final day

Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr may have dueled in Weehawken, New Jersey, but they also both left their mark on Greenwich Village. At the end of the 18th century, Burr began buying up land around Bedford and Downing Streets for his Richmond Hill country estate (a Federal rowhouse here recently hit the market for $5.75 million). Hamilton's connection is much less glamorous: On July 12, 1804, the day after the duel, he died in the home of his friend William Bayard. According to a plaque on the building, this took place at 82 Jane Street, where a listing for a $3,495/month one-bedroom also backs up the claim. But historians say Bayard actually lived a block north on Horatio Street.

Kushner Cos. vision for 666 Fifth Avenue has Zaha Hadid design and $12B ambitions

As 6sqft previously reported, 666 Fifth Avenue owners Kushner Companies and Vornado Realty Trust have been seeking financing for a new skyscraper planned for the site of the Midtown office tower that Kushner purchased for $1.8 billion in 2007; Chinese company Anbang Insurance Group is said to have been considering a substantial stake in the tower. Though it was reported that the redevelopment could be valued at $7.5 billion, the Wall Street Journal now cites sources who say the value could be as much as $12 billion, and that a reported deal with Anbang may be far from a sure thing. That huge number represents the projected value of what Kushner envisions as a 1,400-foot-tall mixed-use luxury tower with a design provided by the late Zaha Hadid in 2015, nine floors of retail, a hotel and big-ticket luxury condos on its upper floors.

My 150sqft: Architect-turned-actor Anthony Triolo shows us his custom-designed tiny apartment

When Anthony Triolo moved into a 150-square-foot studio on the Upper West Side in 2010, he thought it would be a temporary money-saving move. Seven years later, he's changed careers from the architecture field to acting (you've seen him in "How I Met Your Mother" and "How to be Single" and he's currently filming the upcoming show "Bull") and transformed his tiny home into a custom-designed, multi-functional retreat. Anthony describes his style as "casual elegance" and believes smart shopping and mixing affordable finds with some more high-end buys is the key to creating a comfortable home no matter what the size.

A post shared by Melanie Hunt (@melaniehunt1331) on Mar 7, 2017 at 4:50am PST The creator of the iconic Wall Street "Charging Bull” is snorting mad over the appearance of the bull's new companion, artist Kristen Visbal’s bronze "Fearless Girl” statue. 76-year-old Arturo di Modica, the artist who made the iconic sculpture that, like its young challenger, was installed in the wee hours, says the girl is “an advertising trick,” reports MarketWatch.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s former Tribeca townhouse hits the market for $25M

$5.5M ask for renovated Hamilton Heights mansion is a new Harlem record

If this home is, as the listing calls it, "the jewel of this historic neighborhood," the three-block historic Harlem enclave of Hamilton Terrace is a treasure trove, anchored by the Hamilton Grange home of Alexander Hamilton. Listed at $5,495,000, the limestone and terra cotta mansion at 72 Hamilton Terrace is recognizable by its mansard slate roof punctuated by dormer windows and the original wrought iron fencing that surrounds it. This nearly-5,000-square-foot home offers five stories of newly-renovated modern living, including a finished cellar with restaurant-style bar and a wine cellar. The home's $5.495 price tag makes it the priciest single-family listing in the neighborhood; if it sells for that much it may be Harlem's most expensive sale ever.

Huge walls show off insane movie memorabilia collection at this $2.2M Chelsea loft

The first thing you'll notice about this 1,700-square-foot Chelsea loft at 121 West 20th Street is the current owner's fabulous hoard of classic movie memorabilia. The listing tells us that it's been used as a live/work/gallery space to show off the "impressive pop culture collection of Elizabeth Taylor, Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley, Ann-Margret and David Bowie, just to name a few." Then you'll notice that for the ask of $2.2 million, you're getting lots and lots of wall space for a gallery-worthy collection of your own. The "work" part of that equation is covered by a home office that hovers above the main living space, which is really not a bad commute from the bedroom or kitchen below.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tribeca penthouse finally finds a buyer

Last month's price chop and new listing photos certainly did the trick--Gwyneth Paltrow and ex-husband Chris Martin have finally found a buyer for their Tribeca penthouse at 416 Washington Street. The consciously uncoupled pair bought the apartment as a pied-a-terre in 2007 for $5.1 million, but after going their separate ways, listed it last March for $14.25 million. Gwynie then reduced the price to $12.85 million in November and again to $9,995,000 last month. Now, Mansion Global reports that it's gone into contract, though until it hits public records there's no word on who the lucky buyer is and whether or not they'll retain the "ethereal" interiors and fuzzy nap zones.

Oiio’s ‘Big Bend’ proposal for Billionaires’ Row would be the world’s longest building

New York City Architecture firm Oiio has proposed a conceptual skyscraper that would curve at the top and then return to the ground, becoming what the firm believes to be the “longest” building to ever be created. As reported by dezeen, their "Big Bend" proposal challenges Manhattan’s obsession with supertall skyscrapers by substituting extreme height with length—stretching 4,000 feet from end to end. If they are able to design this building, Oiio hopes it could potentially provide a solution to the height limitations imposed by city zoning laws.

Huge Whole Foods coming to Brookfield’s Manhattan West

Along with its glassy towers on the rise and big-name corporations leasing office space, the Hudson Yards district is now displaying another show of how the mega-development is pushing the once-desolate Midtown West area forward--the announcement of a 60,000-square-foot Whole Foods. The green grocer will move into Brookfield Property's eight-acre Manhattan West complex, located at 5 Manhattan West on the corner of 10th Avenue and West 31st Street, directly across from Related's Hudson Yards. Echoing the sentiment of the "Whole Foods effect"--the pattern of real estate values increasing when high-end grocery stores open nearby, both due to convenience and prestige--a press release from the developer says the news "is a significant first step in creating a first-of-its-kind global retail hub at Manhattan West."

‘Barefoot Contessa’ Ina Garten asks $2M for Parisian-style Upper East Side pied-a-terre

This past August, Food Network star and famed cookbook author Ina Garten, along with husband Jeffrey, Yale University dean emeritus, dropped $4.65 million on an Upper East Side co-op at 563 Park Avenue, which they somewhat ironically bought from Nancy Novogrod, former editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure magazine and Condé Nast’s House & Garden. Since they've now presumably settled in and made the elegant space their own, the couple has listed their nearby (smaller) pied-a-terre at 71 East 77th Street. The Post reports that the charming Daniel Romualdez-designed pad will be hitting the market for $1.97 million.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral’s new geothermal plant is up and running

Nearly two years ago, St. Patrick's Cathedral removed the scaffolding that had been shrouding its neo-Gothic facade to reveal a restored landmark. The work was part of a larger four-year $177 million restoration and conservation that's also included an interior overhaul, renovation of the garden, and a new heating and cooling system. This last component is also now complete, as The Architect's Newspaper reports that the Cathedral has activated their new, state-of-the-art geothermal plant, just in time to warm things up for St. Patrick's Day. The system will cut the building’s energy consumption by more than 30 percent and reduce CO2 emissions by roughly 94,000 kilograms.

Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller were neighbors, but this $5M Sutton Place condo is glamorous on its own

Celebrity connections get our attention, especially when the celebrities are as fascinating as Marilyn Monroe and husband Arthur Miller, who shared an elevator landing with this beautifully renovated apartment at 444 East 57th Street. As 6sft previously wrote, the pair's Sutton Place penthouse, on the market last June for $6.75M, "was home to a star-studded list of 20th century residents, topped by the tempestuous Monroe and Miller when the latter was writing “The Misfits” (1961), the last play in which the troubled star would appear," and of terraces that "witnessed glittering parties that drew luminaries of the day from Cary Grant to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor." The elegance that brought them to this legendary 1927 white glove building is very much in evidence in this four-bedroom home spanning nearly 3,000 square feet.

Anonymous commercial space in the East Village transformed into mod-inspired apartment

This modern and unique home has been designed by James Wagman Architects. Located in the East Village, Wagman's team were given a generous 2,000-square-foot space to flex their creative muscles. But there was one rule: the home had to feel warm and private. Sick of living in an open space, their clients, a young couple, had been in the apartment for four years and wanted nothing more to do with the open-space trend. Keen on leaving their loft life behind, they asked for defined quarters, good light, framed views, and the vibe of a peaceful retreat far away from the urban jungle.

Sale of 666 Fifth Avenue to Anbang, would net $400M for Kushner Companies

Anbang Insurance Group, the Chinese company who bought the Waldorf Astoria in late 2014 for nearly $2 billion, is now making headlines for another high-profile real estate transaction, this time against a controversial political backdrop. Bloomberg reports that Anbang is considering a stake in Vornado and Kushner Companies' office tower 666 Fifth Avenue, a deal that Jared Kushner reportedly set into motion before resigning as CEO of his family's company to serve as a presidential advisor to his father-in-law. If the deal goes through, not only will the Kushners profit some $400 million, but they'll receive an equity stake in the new partnership, which will refinance $1.5 billion in existing mortgage debt. The deal values the tower at $2.85 billion, and if Anbang's receives its proposed $4 billion construction loan to turn the top floors into condos, it will be the largest such loan for a single property in NYC history.

A pavilion created from 300,000 recycled cans is coming to Governors Island this summer

"Cast & Place" is the winner of FIGMENT’s 2017 City of Dreams competition, an annual design contest that challenges architecture and design firms to build a pavilion out of recycled materials to be assembled on Governors Island and displayed during the summer. This year, it will be made out of more than 300,000 aluminum cans (the number of cans used in NYC in an hour), melted down and cast into cracked clay. According to the group’s Kickstarter page, the material will be soil excavated from the East River, recycled cans, and reclaimed wood, which will form lightweight, strong panels to provide structure and shade.
