When it comes to a prime downtown location, the corner of 14th Street and 6th Avenue is pretty darn good. On the northeast corner, the new 50-unit condo at 540 6th Avenue was designed inside and out by Morris Adjmi, replacing a lower-scale building that held a long-time dance studio (one home to Merce Cunningham) and an outpost of Moscot eyewear. The 12-story condo, which topped out this past November, has now launched a teaser site as it gears up to launch sales. It’s also been dubbed Förena, the Swedish word for “unite,” a nod to the building’s location at the nexus of Greenwich Village, Union Square, and Chelsea.

Developers Landsea Homes and DNA Development are behind the boutique condominium, for which they broke ground in November 2019. Architect Morris Adjmi designed the building to reflect the neighborhood’s vibrant energy while still creating a sense of tranquility. The facade “takes advantage of symmetry to cultivate a soothing, familiar presence amidst the unpredictable streetscape,” according to a press release, while the “unique masonry detailing rises to cascading setback terraces and sloping metal frames that culminate in a modern crown.”
As for the interiors, the one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes will be reminiscent of Scandinavian design, with a soothing palette. They’ll have floor-to-ceiling windows, and some units will have private outdoor space.
The amenities include a rooftop outdoor dining and kitchen area, a modern fitness center, multiple lounge areas, a landscaped Zen garden courtyard, private aperitif lockers, a bike room, and storage.
When sales commence early this year, prices will start at $1.3 million. Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of the year. Douglas Elliman Development Marketing is the exclusive sales and marketing agency for Förena, with the Eklund | Gomes team leading sales.
