West Village condo of the late Alan Rickman lists for $1.7M

Late British actor Alan Rickman, known for, among countless other roles, playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, lived primarily in England, but he had a great affinity for New York City. When he performed on Broadway (he was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Noel Coward's Private Lives) he resided in his pied-à-terre in the West Village. After his passing in 2016, his estate has now listed the one-bedroom condo at 321 West 13th Street for $1,695,000. According to brokerage Compass, Rickman had "impeccable taste and a keen sense of design," which is shown in the gut renovation he undertook after purchasing the top-floor apartment for $995,000 in 2009.

From 1995 to 2013, Mariano Rivera was a pitching legend for the New York Yankees, ultimately becoming in 2019 the first player ever elected unanimously to the Baseball Hall of Fame. When he and his family moved from Panama in 2000, they relocated to Westchester, not far from the Bronx Bombers' stadium. Now that his three sons are grown, he and his wife Clara have decided to sell their home in Rye, listing it for $3,995,000. The 13,050-square-foot mansion has nine bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms, as well as perks like a home theater, gym, rec room, massive pool deck, and a gated motor court and four-car garage.

Tony Award-winning actress Carole Shelley, who is best known for her roles as Gwendolyn Pigeon in The Odd Couple and Madame Morrible in the original Broadway cast of Wicked, passed away in 2018 at the age of 79, leaving behind her NYC pied-à-terre at 340 West 57th Street. The Midtown West condo is located in the elegant, pre-war Parc Vendome, which is just a few blocks from Central Park South. The spacious one-bedroom home is listed for $1,350,000.

Susan Sarandon sells her Chelsea duplex for $7.9M asking price

Just three months after listing her massive Chelsea duplex for $7.9 million, Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon has sold her long-time home for its full asking price. Located at 147 West 15th Street, the 6,000-square-foot co-op is spread over two floors and has six bedrooms, four exposures including views of the World Trade Center and Empire State Building, and an outdoor terrace and balcony. Over the summer, Queens-native Sarandon told the Wall Street Journal that she isn't leaving the city just downsizing to a smaller apartment in the area. "I’ve always been a New Yorker and I’ll continue to be a New Yorker," she said.

Morrison bought the three-bedroom condo for $3,800,000 in 2014, before passing away last year. Unsurprisingly, the home has lots of built-in shelves, filled with books, moments, and art.

As the Post first reported, Rachel Maddow has put her West Village apartment on the market for $2,349,000. The MSNBC political commentator and her partner Susan Mikula bought the two-bedroom co-op for $1,250,000 in 2010 from REM frontman Michael Stipe. The home is located on a cobblestone street at 130 Jane Street, a former paper warehouse that still retains its original wooden beams.

Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker has purchased a duplex apartment on the Upper East Side for $1.595 million, according to city property records. Located at 42 East 73rd Street, the three-bed, three-bath home boasts a Greek-inspired garden, with stately columns, a brick patio, and mature plantings. Whitaker, who is also a Sustainable Development Goals Advocate for the United Nations, snagged the property for about 8 percent less than the last listed asking price of $1.74 million. It was first listed last October for $1.895 million.

In 1998, the same year she began her breakout role in Sex and the City, actress Kim Cattrall bought this East Hampton home for just $450,000, according to the New York Times, who first reported that it's now been listed for $3,250,000. The shingled home is a lovely mix of casual beach house and contemporary design, and the property also has a detached studio. "I thought about selling the property after my divorce in 2004," Cattrall told the Times, "but I just couldn’t — 22 years later, it’s time."

Hotelier Andre Balazs lists his flashy Soho condo for $12M

Hotelier Andre Balazs, best known for LA's Chateau Marmont, the Mercer Hotel in NYC, and the string of trendy Standard Hotels, unsurprisingly lives a life as lavish as the destination he creates. His personal condo in Soho, taking up the entire top floor at 158 Mercer Street, is no exception. Balazs added plenty of his own panache to the 4,200-square-foot loft, including massive stretches of built-in bookshelves, a custom "wall of light," and a 13th-century Florentine fresco. He also added hotel-quality rooms like a nearly 275-square-foot closet, a personal gym, and a steam room. As the Wall Street Journal first reported, Balazs has decided to list the home for $12 million as he spends much of his time now in Europe.

One of New York City's most storied apartments has just hit the market. John Lennon's former penthouse at 434 East 52nd Street, where he briefly lived with his mistress May Pang during the 1970s and famously spotted a UFO, is asking $5.5 million. The 4,000-square-foot triplex in the Southgate co-op, located where Sutton Place, Beekman, and Midtown East meet, was also where the iconic photos of Lennon wearing a tank top that said "New York City" were taken.

In 2016, Jennifer Lawrence picked up a $15.6 million penthouse on the Upper East Side. She must have really wanted to offload it, because last summer, she listed it for $15,450,000 and dropped it to $12 million earlier this month. According to city property records, the Oscar-winning actress ultimately sold the home at 400 East 67th Street for $9,900,000, taking a nearly $6 million loss. Listing agent Pamela D'Arc of Compass declined to comment on the sale.

After listing her townhouse co-op in the West Village for $2.75 million last September, supermodel and philanthropist Karlie Kloss has found a buyer at the slightly reduced price of $2,382,609, reported CityRealty. The three-bedroom triplex at 151 Charles Street is chic and contemporary and has both a front garden and a second-floor terrace. Kloss bought it in 2012 for $1,975,000. She and husband Josh Kushner sold their Nolita apartment for $6.6 million last August.

Located at 9 East 71st Street on one of the city's wealthiest blocks, the townhouse is considered the largest single-family home in New York City, rising seven stories and measuring more than 28,000 square feet. Epstein was charged federally last year for abusing dozens of underage girls and women at many of his properties, including his Manhattan mansion.

After purchasing his Upper East Side co-op for $12.3 million in 2007, CNN chief executive Jeff Zucker first put the five-bedroom apartment on the market in February for $17.5 million. Now, the Wall Street Journal reports that Zucker and his wife Caryn have found a buyer for the large, glitzy pad, though the buyer's identity and final sale price have not yet been made public. Located at The Verona at 32 East 64th Street, the home is full of elegant touches like Venetian plaster walls, three working fireplaces, and a private elevator landing.

The dramatic Chelsea duplex owned by actress Susan Sarandon for nearly 30 years has hit the market for $7.9 million. Located at 147 West 15th Street within the luxury co-op building La Fabrique, the massive 6,000-square-foot apartment boasts a flexible layout with six bedrooms, four exposures, and a gallery foyer on the eighth floor. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the Academy Award winner, a native of Queens, said she plans to downsize to a smaller pad nearby and has no intention of leaving the city. "I’ve always been a New Yorker and I’ll continue to be a New Yorker," Sarandon said.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, longtime Greenwich Village resident Sarah Jessica Parker posted a heartfelt note to Citi Bike, hoping they can help save one of her favorite local restaurants. Gene's Restaurant has been located on West 11th Street near 6th Avenue for 101 years. But because of a Citi Bike rack right outside their front doors, the Italian restaurant has been unable to set up outdoor dining and is struggling from the pandemic fallout. "I'm happy to help move the @citibike rack just a bit east to make room for some outdoor seating. Whatever it takes," wrote SJP, who is a Citi Bike rider herself.

The home was recently listed for $26.5 million, but it'll now come to auction next month, selling online to the highest bidder with no reserve (who will also have the option to separately purchase all the furniture). Vince's wife, Louise Camuto, said in a statement, "I’ve been here for a long time, and we have loved living here. It’s a year-round house that you enjoy both in the summer and in the winter... It’s a perfect place to raise a family."
