A new supertall residential skyscraper proposed for the Upper West Side would become the neighborhood’s tallest building by a wide margin. Extell Development founder Gary Barnett met with Manhattan Community Board 7 last month to discuss plans for a 1,200-foot-tall tower at 77 West 66th Street, the former Disney campus. The 90-story building would surpass the height of Extell’s tower at 55 West 66th Street, across the street. Hoping to avoid another prolonged legal battle like the one that development faced, Barnett told the board he plans to include 100 affordable units in two smaller buildings as a gesture of "peace" with the community.

IKEA is coming to Fifth Avenue in Midtown

IKEA is returning to Manhattan. The home goods store will open a new store in Midtown within 570 Fifth Avenue, an office tower developed by Extell Development. Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Ingka Group which owns most IKEA stores worldwide, plans to open an 80,000-square-foot store across two cellar levels with a corner entrance on Fifth Avenue. The Swedish company opened a store on the Upper East Side in 2019 but closed about two years later.

A new grocery store for Two Bridges: Brooklyn Fare opens at One Manhattan Square

Over a decade after the longstanding Pathmark store closed, residents of Two Bridges this week celebrated the opening of a new grocery store in the neighborhood. Brooklyn Fare Kitchen & Market has opened at the base of luxury condominium One Manhattan Square at 227 Cherry Street. The new store measures 25,500 square feet, features an all-glass storefront and 20-foot ceilings, and offers a variety of fresh produce, prepared foods, and more, at an affordable price.

Central Park Tower penthouse gets $55M price cut

The highest residence in the world just got a lower price tag. The triplex penthouse at Central Park Tower was listed for $250 million last September, considered the most expensive home in the country if it found a buyer. But after a year on the market, the apartment is now asking $195 million, a price cut of $55 million, or 22 percent, as Bloomberg first reported. The discounted ask means the penthouse is no longer in the running for the priciest home sale in the United States.

Papaya King finds new home on the Upper East Side

Papaya King, the iconic hot dog and fruit juice institution, has found a new home after years of narrowly avoiding permanent closure, as first reported by Upper East Site. The renowned frankfurter establishment will move across the street from its original location at 179 East 86th Street to a new storefront at 1535 Third Avenue, which could open as early as next week.

The triplex penthouse at Central Park Tower hit the market on Monday for an astonishing $250 million, set to become the country's most expensive sale ever if the home fetches the asking price. The highest residence in the world sits 1,416 feet above New York City on Billionaires' Row and takes up the building's 129th, 130th, and 131st floors.

Earlier this year, the 68-story condo tower Brooklyn Point unveiled its rooftop infinity pool, the highest in the Western Hemisphere. This week images showing off all of the building's luxury amenity spaces were released for the first time, providing a peek at 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor perks for residents. Brooklyn’s tallest tower unveils highest infinity pool in the Western Hemisphere

After several years of rendering-peeping, we finally have the full reveal of Brooklyn Point's rooftop infinity pool, situated 680 feet above the ground. This makes it the highest such pool in the Western Hemisphere, surpassing the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel pool in Singapore. The condo tower from Extell also has the distinction of being the borough's tallest tower and offers other amazing amenities such as a stargazing observatory, 65-foot indoor saltwater swimming pool, a rock-climbing wall, and a squash/basketball court.

From its sky-high outdoor infinity pool to the chic interior finishes designed by Katherine Newman, no details were overlooked at Brooklyn Point, the 720-foot residential tower in Downtown Brooklyn. After topping out last spring, officially becoming the borough's tallest tower, and commencing closings and first move-ins this summer, new photos of the building's model unit were released in September, which show off the eclectic interiors by designer Charlie Ferrer.

Not only is Brooklyn Point the tallest building in the borough, but it has the highest infinity pool in the western hemisphere. Superlatives aside, the 720-foot condo tower has also proved popular for its location across from Willoughby Square Park and its inclusion in the larger City Point development in Downtown Brooklyn. And in true Extell Development fashion, the amenity package is stacked, including a huge landscaped terrace complete with BBQs and a putting green, a triple-height lounge, and another indoor pool. Just in time for residents to enjoy all these perks, Brooklyn Point has announced that it's commenced closings and begun the first move-ins.

One Manhattan Square offers COVID-19 discount up to 20 percent on luxury units

Not only is One Manhattan Square one of the last residential buildings in New York City able to entice buyers with a 421-a tax abatement, but the Lower East Side high-rise is also currently offering major discounts on its luxury apartments. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Extell Development announced last month discounts of up to 20 percent on all remaining units at the 800-foot-tall condominium.

Extell Development Company's largest-ever luxury residential property, One Manhattan Square, has introduced a standout collection of indoor amenities twice the size of the White House, including four pools, a full-sized basketball court, a bowling alley and a cinema, Located on Manhattan's Lower East Side on the East River waterfront, the 847-foot-tall, 815-unit condominium tower–it was 6sqft's 2017 Building of the Year–boasts unobstructed panoramic water and skyline views, but its amenities package is the real standout. Extell has called the residence "a true vertical village," with 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities–more than anywhere else, the company claims, in New York City.

Construction of Upper West Side’s tallest tower can proceed

Construction of Extell's controversial supertall on the Upper West Side can move forward, the city's Board of Standards and Appeals ruled Tuesday. In an unusual 2-2 split decision, the BSA said the mechanical space planned for the tower at 50 West 66th Street is appropriate, rejecting a challenge from the preservation organization Landmark West. The group had argued that Extell abused the zoning code by including tall mechanical floors in its design in order to boost the overall height of units at the building, without increasing square footage.

Review of mechanical space use continues at Extell’s Upper West Side tower

Extell's Snøhetta-designed Upper West Side tower at 50 West 66th Street has cleared one set of legal challenges but the building's contested use of mechanical spaces remains an issue. As Crain’s reported on Tuesday, the city’s Board of Standards and Appeals voted down challenges to the building’s split zoning lots—upholding the Department of Buildings permits for the project—but voted to further scrutinize the tower’s use of mechanical floor spaces by initiating a review of whether Extell is “appropriately occupying” those spaces.

The world’s tallest residential building, Central Park Tower, tops out at 1,550 feet

Central Park Tower officially topped out on Tuesday, breaking the record set by nearby 432 Park Avenue for the tallest residential building in the world. Reaching 1,550 feet high, the skyscraper at 217 West 57th Street would be the tallest building in New York City if not for the 400-foot spire of One World Trade, as New York Magazine reported. Developed by supertall-specialists Extell, Central Park Tower includes a seven-story Nordstrom flagship store and 179 luxury condos.

The tallest residential building in Brooklyn was crowned this week with the highest infinity pool in the Western Hemisphere. A video released by Extell shows a 27-foot-long pool being hoisted 680 feet in the air, taking its place atop Brooklyn Point. The 68-story tower, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, topped out in April and sits as part of the Downtown Brooklyn development City Point.

New looks and pricing details for Extell’s Central Park Tower

In March, Extell Development's supertall on Billionaires' Row became the tallest residential tower in the world, surpassing the 1,396-foot-tall 432 Park Avenue. Now, ahead of Central Park Tower's official topping out scheduled this summer, the developers have released new renderings of its exclusive amenity space, including the indoor pool and full-service lobby. And a handful of the building's 179 residences will be listed for the first time next week, ranging from a two-bedroom for $6.9 million to a five-bedroom for $63 million.

Extell’s 720-foot Brooklyn Point tops out, becomes tallest tower in borough

Brooklyn Point, Extell’s first outer-borough tower rising at 138 Willoughby Street officially topped out this week at 720 feet, and the views from near the top are even more incredible than expected. The 68-story high-rise designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox will contain 458 luxury units, ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, starting at $850,000 and reaching over $4 million. On track to be completed by 2020, it’ll be Brooklyn's tallest building (at least until the 1,000-foot building planned for 9 DeKalb Avenue rises) and boast the highest outdoor infinity pool in the western hemisphere.
