The architect’s signature curves and organic indoor and outdoor architecture made the late Pritzker Prize winner Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28th Street 6sqft’s Building of the Year. Now, closings have begun in the stunning Chelsea condo, starting with a pair of two bedroom units. Residences 9, which sold for $6 million, and 14, which sold for $6.2 million, are 2,147-square-foot two-bedroom homes with private balconies.

Just a few days after the first anniversary of Zaha Hadid‘s death, developer Related Companies has revealed the first look inside the apartments at 520 West 28th Street–the Pritzker Prize-winning architect’s first (and possibly only) NYC project. The first is a 4,500-square-foot, $15 million four-bedroom designed by Jennifer Post, combining her signature elegant, minimal aesthetic with Hadid’s futuristic, architectural vision. The other is a 1,700-square-foot, $4.9 million unit from West Chin who employs his signature modern style in a way that complements the building’s signature curves and organic indoor and outdoor architecture. Both spaces will serve as the building’s sales gallery before the anticipated June 2017 move-in.

Zaha Hadid’s unknown, unbuilt and celebrated projects in New York City

By Ondel Hylton and Dana Schulz, Fri, March 31, 2017

A year ago today, Zaha Hadid’s sudden passing at age 65 rocked the architecture world. Best known for her signature swooping and curving forms and for being the first female to win the Pritzker Prize, she surprisingly has only one project in NYC, the under-construction 520 West 28th Street. Likely due to an unwillingness to tame her energetic visions to suit a developer’s bottom line, the majority of her work envisioned for the city remains unbuilt. To mark the one-year anniversary of her passing and to pay tribute to her “larger than life” creations and personality, 6sqft has rounded up Zaha Hadid’s projects and proposals for NYC.

Related Companies is looking to expand on Chelsea‘s cultural character as a world-famous art district, as well as expand this “gallery corridor” north towards Hudson Yards, as part of an initiative called The New West Chelsea. According to a press release from the developer, they’re adding 15 new gallery spaces around their luxury condo at 520 West 28th Street, the late Zaha Hadid‘s undulating High Line stunner. A new space called High Line Nine, which will be located next to the condo and under the elevated park, will be modeled on a European galleria, complete with nine “boutique exhibition spaces,” a cafe/wine bar with outdoor seating, catering kitchen, and amenity packages. They’ll also add four galleries within the base of the condo, as well as two stand-alone spaces on the block.

Zaha Hadid Architects has released a new video in which the firm’s late principal, internationally celebrated starchitect Zaha Hadid, discusses the ideas that influenced the iconic, innovative and controversial design of her first residential project in New York City, the High Line adjacent 520 West 28th Street, developed by Related Cos. The 11-story residence was voted 6sqft’s 2016 Building of the Year and is currently nearing completion.

Zaha Hadid High Line Penthouse

The 6,853-square-foot triplex penthouse atop the 11-story 520 West 28th Street condominium on the High Line, designed by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid, has arrived on the market for the first time for the as-promised ask of $50 million. The architecturally unique 39-unit building, Hadid’s first–and, sadly, only–ground-up structure in New York City, has interiors also overseen and designed by the architect.

Related Companies, the building’s developer, speaks of the honor of collaborating with “one of the world’s most visionary architects, Dame Zaha Hadid, on the design for 520 West 28th. The design is being realized as she envisioned–each residence is a work of art unto itself–and the penthouse in particular is a spectacular example of this, including various unique elements such as a sculptural three-story staircase, designed by Hadid, which unites all levels of the triplex residence.”

6sqft is sad to report that world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid has passed away. According to BBC News, Ms. Hadid died of a heart attack today in a Miami hospital, where she was being treated for bronchitis.

The Baghdad-born Iraqi-British architect is considered one of today’s most prolific and her works have been commissioned across the globe, including here in New York where her first Manhattan building is currently on the rise at 520 West 28th Street (seen above). Hadid was the first female architect to receive a Pritzker Prize award (2004) and she was also the first woman to receive the RIBA Gold Medal (2015).

Listings Launch for Zaha Hadid’s High Line Condos

By Dana Schulz, Fri, October 30, 2015

520 West 28th Street, Zaha Hadid, Related Companies, High Line 2

Though sales launched earlier this month at Zaha Hadid’s curving High Line condo building, her first commission in NYC, there were no public listings. The wait is over, though, as they’ve just gone live, providing long-anticipated pricing and floorplans.

The eleven-story building at 520 West 28th Street in Chelsea will offer 39 two- to five-bedroom homes, all of which take advantage of the starchitect’s signature swooping construction. They’ll range from $4,950,000 to $50 million for the largest penthouse, but the three residences listed on Corcoran are a $6.4 million two-bedroom unit; a $9.4 million three-bedroom; and a $16 million four-bedroom.

Related Companies has officially launched sales for their highly-anticipated upcoming condominium, 520 West 28th Street. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect and artist Zaha Hadid, the eleven-story building will be Hadid’s first ground-up structure in New York and will offer 39 distinctive two- to five-bedroom homes priced from $4,950,000 to $50 million for the largest penthouse.

The under construction building, now five-stories up, rises alongside the High Line elevated park from an L-shaped parcel between West 27th and 28th Streets in the center of West Chelsea’s art gallery district. Related Companies purchased the site for $65 million in 2012 and soon after commissioned the Iraqi-British designer, who beat out the likes of fellow Brit, Norman Foster. Yesterday, at the development’s launch, Hadid said she has “always been fascinated by the High Line and its possibilities for the city. ”
