News anchor Cynthia McFadden’s UES townhouse, once home to director Elia Kazan, asks $6M

Built in 1899, this Carnegie Hill townhouse at 174 East 95th Street has another history claim: It has been home to some serious and dedicated behind-the-camera luminaries. The four-story townhouse was for a time the address of controversial Oscar-winning stage and screen director Elia Kazan ("On the Waterfront," "East of Eden" and many more). The 4,240-square-foot, four-bedroom home is currently owned by veteran TV journalist Cynthia McFadden, who is now the senior legal and investigative correspondent for NBC News. Diane Kruger buys a 19th-century West Village townhouse for $12M

German-American actress Diane Kruger and her boyfriend Norman Reedus, best known for his role in The Walking Dead, bought an $11.75 million townhouse in the West Village, according to the Wall Street Journal. The couple snagged a four-story Federal-style townhouse built in 1835. Kruger, who is expecting her first child, has also listed her Tribeca home for $4.7 million. She bought the two-bedroom unit last June for $4.2 million.

Like many grand Manhattan properties in the neighborhood, this duplex penthouse atop a five-story townhouse at 57 East 73rd Street has an interesting past: It was once home to painter Marc Chagall (though another former Chagall residence nearby at 4 East 74th Street has attracted a bit more buzz in recent years, especially since Michael Jackson lived there in the 1990s). The 73rd Street townhouse has been divided into five condos since the artist's time. Besides having painterly penthouse bragging rights, there's a terrace that looks out over the Upper East Side neighborhood, which in turn is one block from Central Park and the Carlyle Hotel. The 1,350-square-foot home is asking $4.35 million–after several price chops from its original ask of $4.95 million in June.

Formerly pink West Village townhouse returns for $7.8M with a period-perfect facade and sleek interiors

Built in 1826, the four-story townhouse at 39 Barrow Street resembles many of the neighborhood's historic gems with its brick facade and traditional black shutters. You'd never know that sometime between its construction and 2010 when it was purchased for $4.125 million by the son of a pharmacy mogul bent on renovation, the house was a quirky pale pink stucco standout with bright lemon-yellow trim. We don't know who bestowed the Lilly Pulitzer treatment, but in previous listings it bore a rather charming resemblance to a Palm Beach palazzo. With that era long over, the home's facade is now the picture of 19th century correctness; inside, however, Reed Morrison Architects have transformed the house into a showcase of contemporary sleekness and modern convenience. $14M townhouse in exclusive Upper East Side historic district looks like a European villa

This lavish townhouse could easily pass for a Parisian or Italian home, but it's, in fact, hiding behind a traditional brownstone facade on the Upper East Side. Located at 234 East 61st Street, the four-story residence is part of the ultra-exclusive Treadwell Farm Historic District, which encompasses only two blocks. Though it was built along with its neighbors in 1873, the house underwent a unique interior renovation in 1910 that added its 21-foot vaulted ceilings and rear, arched addition that opens to the magical south-facing garden. Other stylistically unique architectural elements that have made their way in include the wrought iron railings, ornately carved marble fireplace, and etched glass windows. After last selling in 2006 for $7.9 million, it's now asking $13.9 million.

Jennifer Connelly trades Tribeca co-op for $15M Brooklyn Heights townhouse

Actors Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany are switching boroughs by selling their Tribeca co-op and picking up a Brooklyn Heights townhouse for $15.5 million. The sale represents one of the most expensive deals in Brooklyn ever, according to the Wall Street Journal. While the transaction was off-market, an old listing for the Brooklyn property at 140 Columbia Heights describes the 8,000-square-foot home as having views of the Statue of Liberty and the Lower Manhattan skyline. The sellers are Timothy Ingrassia, a Goldman Sachs executive, and his wife Stephanie, who serves as a vice chair on the Brooklyn Museum's board of trustees. The Ingrassias paid $10.75 million for the property in 2006.

ABC news anchor and media entrepreneur Dan Abrams is selling his 3,300-square-foot home in the Village. The three-story property at 150 Waverly Place is part of a seven-unit condo made up of two neighboring 1830s-era Greek Revival townhouses. According to the Wall Street Journal, Abrams, who is chief legal analyst for ABC News, host of A&E’s “Live PD” and the publisher of Mediaite and its sibling sites, first lived in the building in 2004 as a renter, then bought a three-bedroom duplex for $2.175 million. He purchased the adjacent duplex–which included a private garden—in 2009 for $1.645 million.

Upper East Side townhouse asks $30M in U.S. dollars or $45M in Bitcoin

Last month, New York City had its first cryptocurrency real estate closing. The next week, an owner of the Plaza floated the idea of selling a "Plaza Token" to a group of foreign investors. Now, hedge fund founder and tech investor Claudio Guazzoni de Zanett, the owner of the landmarked townhouse at 10 East 76th Street, is asking one price in US dollars and a higher value in digital currencies due to their volatility. He is willing to accept bitcoin, Ethereum or Ripple. "I’m a true believer in these networks, but it’s very volatile," Zanett told the Wall Street Journal. "They could be down 60% in two weeks."
