Greenwich Village block co-named for Jimi Hendrix

A block in Greenwich Village has been co-named in honor of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, paying tribute to the street where he built the historic Electric Lady Studios. After a major snowstorm forced the ceremony in February to be rescheduled, part of West 8th Street was officially co-named "Jimi Hendrix Way" on Wednesday, marking the culmination of a decades-long effort by family members and supporters. The honor recognizes Hendrix’s connection to Electric Lady Studios, which he commissioned in 1968 and opened in 1970, just months before his death at age 27, and which remains one of the most influential recording studios in the world.

NYPD closes area around MSG for Knicks game

The New York Police Department will once again close several blocks around Madison Square Garden during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday. In a post on X, the NYPD said the same "secure zone" implemented around the arena on Monday, when President Donald Trump attended the game, will be in effect. While originally a ticketed watch party was scheduled for outside MSG, Knicks owner James Dolan canceled the event, blaming Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the NYPD for not allowing more than 1,000 spectators.

Bryant Park to host Knicks watch party for Game 3

Bryant Park will host a Knicks watch party on Monday after the usual event outside of Madison Square Garden was canceled due to heightened security for President Donald Trump, who is attending the game. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that the Midtown park will be showing Game 3 of the NBA Finals for 5,000 fans. The event is free to attend, but registration is required. You can sign up for a spot starting at 12 p.m. here.

NYC reopens Orchard Beach Pavilion after 17 years and $114M restoration

The historic Orchard Beach Pavilion in the Bronx partially reopened to the public earlier this month, restoring access to the landmarked beachfront destination for the first time in 17 years after a $114 million reconstruction. Beginning in December 2022, work on the 140,000-square-foot project involved preserving the pavilion’s 1930s-era architecture while adding new community amenities and accessibility upgrades. The seaside landmark, located at the only public beach in the Bronx, reopened ahead of the summer season and the opening of city beaches last weekend. Additional features remain under construction, with a full reopening expected later this summer.

First city-owned grocery store to open next year at mixed-use development in Hunts Point

Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday announced that New York City’s first city-owned grocery store will open next year at a new affordable housing development in the South Bronx. The store will be located at The Peninsula, a Bronx project transforming the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in Hunts Point into a mixed-use development with 740 affordable apartments. The announcement builds on Mamdani’s campaign pledge to open five city-owned grocery stores, one in each borough, and follows a plan announced last month for a store in East Harlem.

Landmarked artists’ housing building on Billionaires’ Row is reborn as luxury condos

A landmarked building on Billionaires' Row has been transformed into 47 luxury condos. Sales launched this week at Parc Beaufort, a 14-story tower at 140 West 57th Street originally built in 1908 as housing for artists. Led by the Feil Organization and MdeAS Architects, the conversion of the luxury condo preserved the building's historic pre-war character while adding contemporary interiors by AD100 firm Stephen Sills Associates. Residences, ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, start at $955,000.

The Park Avenue penthouse owned by Maurice Tempelsman, Jackie Kennedy Onassis's longtime companion, is now on the market. Tempelsman, who died last summer at the age of 95, bought the top-floor co-op at 1155 Park Avenue in Carnegie Hill for $3.3 million in 1999, as the New York Times reported. Now asking $5.5 million, the two-bedroom pre-war apartment is surrounded by an enormous, landscaped terrace, providing a serene rooftop garden with views of Manhattan and Central Park.

PATH fare hike takes effect ahead of return of 7-day service

The cost to ride PATH trains officially increased from $3 to $3.25 on Monday as part of the system's transformative service upgrades. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the fare hike will help fund its $45 billion 2026-2035 Capital Plan, which has modernized the 118-year-old system’s infrastructure and enabled the return of 7-day service on all lines for the first time in 25 years, with additional improvements to come. Fares are expected to rise in 25-cent increments, reaching $4 in 2029. Reduced fare for riders ages 65 and older, as well as those with disabilities, also increased by 10 cents, from $1.50 to $1.60.

The New York City penthouse that acted as the fictional home of financial fraudster Jordan Belfort in the 2013 film "The Wolf of Wall Street" is back on the market. Located on the 32nd floor of the Midtown East condo building Milan at 300 East 55th Street, the luxurious, 2,700-square-foot penthouse serves as the setting of a pivotal scene with Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and an associate who dangles a butler over the balcony. The scene shows off the very real sweeping city views, especially of the Chrysler Building, from the three-bedroom home, which just hit the market for $4,950,000.

Pink buys historic yellow Greenwich Village townhouse for $21.5M

Pink bought a yellow Greenwich Village townhouse. The pop star paid $21.5 million for the historic six-story home at 125 West 11th Street, as the Wall Street Journal first reported. Built in 1849, the cheerfully painted Greek Revival mansion has served as a haven for artists for over a century, most recently the same family for 70 years. Following a three-year renovation, the roughly 7,900-square-foot home first hit the market for $25 million in 2024 before being reduced by $3.5 million last fall.

City to restart Flatbush Avenue redesign this month

Work to redesign Brooklyn’s Flatbush Avenue will resume this month, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the city's Department of Transportation (DOT) announced Thursday. The project will create dedicated center lanes along the notoriously congested and dangerous corridor from Livingston Street to Grand Army Plaza, and is expected to speed up commutes for 132,000 daily bus riders, who currently travel at average speeds of under 4 miles per hour. Initial work on the four-phase project began last fall, but DOT suspended construction because of winter weather. Construction will restart at the end of April and continue into the fall of 2026, weather permitting.

New look at Fifth Avenue’s tallest residential tower, 262 Fifth Ave

New renderings of Fifth Avenue's tallest residential building were released this week as sales kick off at the condominium. Developed by Five Points Development and designed by Meganom, 262 Fifth Avenue is a 52-story tower in Nomad with only 26 full-floor and duplex residences. In addition to new images, the developer launched a teaser website for the building and announced a new sales team from Sotheby's International Realty.

Oleg Cassini’s former UES mansion sells for $34.5M after lengthy bankruptcy battle

An Upper East Side townhouse tied to late fashion designer Oleg Cassini has sold for $34.5 million, bringing a years-long legal and bankruptcy battle to a close. The five-story home at 15 East 63rd Street was at the center of a high-profile dispute involving Cassini’s widow, Marianne Nestor, and her sister, Peggy Nestor, who filed for bankruptcy in 2023 after creditors moved to foreclose on the Beaux Arts limestone townhouse. The pair had filed, and lost, nearly 20 court appeals to delay the case and keep the residence, according to Crain’s.

Brooklyn Bridge to get separate bike and pedestrian entrances in Manhattan

New York City this week launched another new street safety project ahead of the FIFA World Cup this summer. Starting in April, the city will fully separate the cyclist and pedestrian entrances to the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan for the first time, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Friday. Dedicated cyclist and pedestrian entrances from Centre Street and Park Row will allow bike riders to access the bridge without cutting through crowds. Slated for completion in June, the redesign will also convert a left-turn bay on Centre Street between Chambers Street and the bridge entrance into a two-way protected bike lane.

New community space opens at Wagner Park Pavilion in Battery Park City

A new community space with sweeping views of New York Harbor opened Monday at the Pavilion in Battery Park City’s Wagner Park. Dubbed "The Classroom," the 1,200-square-foot space is designed for public engagements, private rentals, catered events, and business meetings. The addition marks the latest phase of Wagner Park Pavilion’s revitalization, following a two-year overhaul that included reopening the park in July, after elevating it by 10 feet and incorporating hidden flood protection measures as part of a nearly $300 million project.

New Museum opens OMA-designed expansion

After two years, the New Museum will reopen its doors this weekend, as its long-awaited $82 million expansion is finally complete. The seven-story, 60,000-square-foot addition, designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas in collaboration with Cooper Robertson, one of the few projects combining the work of two living Pritzker Prize-winning architects, opens to the public on Saturday, March 21. Seamlessly combining with the existing SANAA-designed flagship on the Bowery at Prince Street, the project doubles the New Museum's gallery space, adds a permanent home for its cultural incubator NEW INC, and introduces a new outdoor plaza and a 100-seat all-day cafe and restaurant.

Smorgasburg has unveiled its lineup of vendors ahead of its return next month, kicking off its 16th season the first weekend in April. The beloved outdoor food market will host 74 vendors, including 22 making their Smorasburg debut. The market opens in Williamsburg’s Marsha P. Johnson State Park on Saturday, April 4, followed by Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill on Sunday.
