Prospect Park’s colorful Concert Grove Pavilion with star-shaped stained-glass skylight reopens

After being closed to the public for nearly seven years, the historic Concert Grove Pavilion in Prospect Park reopened this week following a restoration. Designed in 1874 by Calvert Vaux, who co-designed the Brooklyn park with Frederick Law Olmsted, the stunning structure features colorfully painted wood ceilings and iron columns, ornate wooden trim, and a star-patterned stained-glass dome.

Tom Fruin’s famous colorful glass house sculptures arrive in Meatpacking District

American sculptor Tom Fruin has brought his famous "Icon" series to Gansevoort Plaza in the Meatpacking District. The installation, which is a welcome dose of color in the cold winter months, consists of one large "house" and seven smaller "satellite homes," all made in the artist's signature stained glass-esque design. During the day, the sun shines through the glass, casting colorful refelections, and at night, the pieces project multi-colored LED lights onto the cobblestone plaza.

Located at 336 Himrod Street, real estate developer and designer ASH NYC, in partnership with Martin Lomazow and the owner of the factory, are developing the 77,000-square-foot mixed-use development in the bustling Brooklyn neighborhood. Ranging from $2,500/month studios to $3,800/month three-bedrooms, as well as a selection of penthouses, Glassworks Bushwick includes 63 rentals in the five-story building. The rental, currently under construction, will incorporate new construction, the rehabilitation of an existing factory space and the redevelopment of an existing garage building into a commercial space. The project is set to be complete this year.

Andrew Franz transformed this Chelsea apartment by replacing walls with glass partitions

To bring light into this Chelsea apartment, architect Andrew Franz pulled out all the tricks. To open and brighten up every corner of the 800-square-foot pad, the firm removed walls, added full-height glass partitions and high-gloss lacquered ceilings. While some of the apartment's historic details were restored, the final product feels super modern and spacious—with each room, of course, awash in sunlight.

Though they're charming and often in great neighborhoods, condos created from historic townhouses often disappoint. Landmarks Greenlights 190 Bowery Restoration Plan with Iconic Graffiti Intact

After several weeks of back and forth on whether or not the new owner of 190 Bowery, Aby Rosen’s RFR Realty, would keep its iconic graffiti, it's now official that the historic Germania Bank Building will remain in all its tagged glory. As Yimby reports, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the proposed restoration and conversion to an office building with ground-floor retail. The plan, conceptualized by preservation architecture firm Higgins Quasebarth & Partners with the help of MdeAS Architects, "calls for restoration of metal gates, wooden doors, stained glass, and other elements, but not removing the graffiti or cleaning the façade."
