He may fly under the radar in Hollywood, but when it comes to Brooklyn real estate, Matt Damon seems to be all about high life. This time last year, he toured the historic Brooklyn Heights mansion at 3 Pierrepont Place, which was the borough's most expensive listing ever at $40 million. Though he didn't follow through, it looks like he's still poised to set a record, as Mansion Global reports that sources say the actor has gone into contract on the penthouse at the nearby recent condo conversion The Standish. If the sale closes for its most recent price of $16,645,000, it will take the crown for priciest residential sale ever in Brooklyn, stealing the title from a $15.5 million Cobble Hill townhouse sale in 2015.

East Village’s $3.5M rooftop cottage finds a buyer in just over a month

6sqft marveled earlier this summer at the utter coolness of the two-unit, three-story property that atop the building at 72 East 1st Street in the East Village. The unit arrived on the market for $3.5 million in June; its top floor is comprised of one of the city’s handful of rare rooftop cabins and cottages. The Nantucket-style cottage is an artists’ studio, with a full-floor penthouse duplex below. Rare and cool clearly count for a lot, because the property has already entered contract at its asking price according to the listing site (h/t Curbed).

Yankees’ Aaron Judge may have scored a swanky Murray Hill penthouse

Where did Yankees' outfielder and home run slugger Aaron Judge go yesterday after becoming the first rookie to get 100 walks in a season since 1953? Quite possibly to his pad at the glassy new rental 237 East 34th Street. A source told The Real Deal that "the Judgement" recently rented a penthouse at the Murray Hill building, and the latest such unit to go off the market is a $13,900/month duplex with two private terraces, a large open kitchen/living room plan, and East River and skyline views.

Actor Stephen Dorff gets $2.7M for bachelor-friendly Chelsea penthouse

When actor Stephen Dorff put his Chelsea penthouse on the market for $3 million in March of last year, 6sqft described it as "party-ready," thanks to an 850-square-foot roof terrace complete with wet bar/kitchen and outdoor shower. But it looks like "The Power of One," "Blade," and "Somewhere" star is officially saying goodbye to his bachelor pad days, as the Observer reports that he's unloaded the duplex at 251 West 19th Street for $2.7 million.

According to city records, Rosie dropped $8 million on a triplex penthouse at Midtown East's 255 East 49th Street. Jimmy Choo co-founder Tamara Mellon finally sells UES penthouse at a $14M discount

You'll be hard pressed to find a pair of discounted Jimmy Choos, but the iconic shoe brand's co-founder Tamara Mellon didn't fare as well when it came to her Upper East Side penthouse, which sits atop the historic Carhart Mansion at 3 East 95th Street. Mellon bought the Carnegie Hill apartment from Seagram heir Charles Bronfman Jr. and first listed it for sale in 2014 for $34 million. After several price chops and an attempt as a $85,000/month rental, it's finally found a buyer reports LL NYC. Contemporary artist George Condo paid $19.8 million for the condo (no pun intended), much less than the most recent ask of $25 million.

Upper West Side penthouse masterminded by Italian designer Ettore Sottsass asks $19 million

This Hotel des Artistes apartment, now on the market, comes with an incredible interior decor story. Bloomberg notes that it belongs to the French-born entrepreneur/photographer/art collector/playboy Jean Pigozzi, who purchased it in 1986. Soon after, he enlisted Ettore Sottsass, designer and founder of the Memphis Group, to redesign it. Sottass, at the time, was at the height of his fame, and ended up designing every nook and cranny. (He passed away in 2007, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a retrospective of his work this summer.) As Pigozzi told Bloomberg, "He designed 100 percent of everything... Every table, every sofa, every book shelf, every sink, every doorknob." He even helped Pigozzi expand the design into the adjacent duplex that he purchased a few years later. Now, the fabulous penthouse is on the market for $19 million.

At the time, the exact apartment wasn't known, though it was assumed it may have been Penthouse G, then under contract for $27.5 million. This was correct, though the power couple ended up paying only $20.2 million for the 5,375-square foot home, according to The Real Deal. The "paparazzi-proof" building--it boasts privacy-focused amenities like an interior courtyard, underground garage, and a porte-cochere--has attracted former tenants including Mike Myers, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Jennifer Lawrence, and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton.

Roof decks don't get much better than this one atop the penthouse at 454 West 46th Street, also known as the Piano Factory. Late billionaire’s ex lists spectacular Stanhope penthouse with five terrace gardens for $65M

The 7,067 square-foot penthouse at 995 Fifth Avenue owned by Claude Wasserstein, ex wife of the late Bruce Wasserstein, former chair of investment firm Lazard, was just listed for the first time since a brief stint on the market in 2010. Wasserstein, who died in 2009, was the brother of the late playwright Wendy Wasserstein. The 11-room, five-bedroom duplex atop the Rosario Candela-designed former Stanhope hotel was purchased by Ms. Wasserstein for $34.8 million in 2008, The Real Deal reports. In addition to five garden-like wraparound terraces crafted by landscape designer Madison Cox, "epic NYC views" and 72 linear feet of Central Park frontage, the full-service building offers top-drawer amenities like a gym and a spa. But does all of that add up to $65 million–$9,285 per square foot?

Glamorous Yorkville penthouse once home to Irving Berlin lists for $7.9M

Growing up at the turn of the century on the Lower East Side, which was then home to the Yiddish Rialto (the largest Yiddish theater in the world at the time), is how legendary Hollywood songwriter Irving Berlin was first exposed to music and theater. But later in life, he moved his family uptown, first to Sutton Place and then to 130 East End Avenue, an Emory Roth-designed co-op in Yorkville right across from Carl Schurz Park. Dumbo Clock Tower penthouse finally sells for $15M, is borough’s priciest condo ever sold

And just like that, the record for the most expensive condo ever sold in Brooklyn has been broken. A triplex penthouse at 1 Main Street, atop the Clock Tower building in Dumbo, sold for $15 million, beating out a unit at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pierhouse that closed for nearly $10.6 million just last month. As the New York Post reported, the historic unit had a hard time finding a buyer; it sat on the market for nearly six years, switched brokerages and chopping its price tag several times.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are bringing sexy back to Tribeca with new penthouse buy

Although Justin Timberlake was spotted scoping out an $18.5 million Greenwich Village penthouse last month, he chose Tribeca to call home with wife Jessica Biel and their two-year-old son, Silas. According to the Real Deal, the power couple signed a deal for a penthouse at 443 Greenwich Street. Built in 1882 and recently restored by CetraRuddy Architects, the building boasts an interior courtyard, underground garage, 71-foot indoor swimming pool and landscaped roof terrace, so it’s no wonder celebrities are flocking here. Former residents include Mike Myers, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Jennifer Lawrence, and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton. While the exact unit the couple bought remains unclear, Penthouse G is currently under contract for $27.5 million.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tribeca penthouse finally finds a buyer

Last month's price chop and new listing photos certainly did the trick--Gwyneth Paltrow and ex-husband Chris Martin have finally found a buyer for their Tribeca penthouse at 416 Washington Street. The consciously uncoupled pair bought the apartment as a pied-a-terre in 2007 for $5.1 million, but after going their separate ways, listed it last March for $14.25 million. Gwynie then reduced the price to $12.85 million in November and again to $9,995,000 last month. Now, Mansion Global reports that it's gone into contract, though until it hits public records there's no word on who the lucky buyer is and whether or not they'll retain the "ethereal" interiors and fuzzy nap zones.
