Tucked away within the austere limestone façade of Architect Robert A.M. Stern’s 15 Central Park West is this fabulous apartment courtesy of Carl D’Aquino and Francine Monaco of New York-based design firm D’Aquino Monaco. Every single room is a treat to the senses, with bold splashes of color and unusual finishing touches combined to create a living space as cozy as it is quirky.
Although a few of the rooms pay homage to a slightly more classic aesthetic, unique choices in light fixtures, artwork, and floor coverings provide just the right amount of whimsy to make it clear this apartment is anything but traditional.
Some of our favorite design choices: the geometrically-shaped “crown molding” in the foyer reminiscent of a childhood folded-paper fortune teller game (click here if you’re not old enough to remember); the curious circular-patterned eye-and-face themed wallpaper in the eating area (“I always feel like somebody’s watching me” comes to mind); the very red room (which we doubt is anything like the one in Christian Grey’s home, for all you Fifty Shades of Grey fans); and, although each piece of overhead lighting is a work of art unto itself, the “jacks-like” fixture hovering above the green wall adorned with baby photos simply makes us smile. Who knows, perhaps we’ve hit upon some of Carl D’Aquino and Francine Monaco’s design inspirations.
When writing about a home is this much fun, we can only imagine what it feels like to live here. Intrigued? Lucky for you, there’s much more to see, and we’ve got it all in our photo gallery below. Plus, you can see all of D’Aquino Monaco’s work here.
