See the 1,100-unit Gotham Point towers coming to the Long Island City waterfront

A massive development with over 1,000 units of housing is coming to Long Island City's Hunter's Point South neighborhood. Developed by the Gotham Organization and RiseBoro Community Partnership, Gotham Point includes two towers and a total of 1,132 residences, 75 percent of which are affordable. The project is part of a broader plan first announced in 2013 by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg to redevelop nine parcels of land in Hunter's Point South and bring 5,000 new apartments to the neighborhood. A housing lottery opened on Wednesday for 534 mixed-income apartments at a massive rental in Long Island City. As part of the latest phase of TF Cornerstone's redevelopment of Hunter's Point South, 5203 Center Boulevard is one of two buildings at the site designed by ODA, with SLCE as the architect of record. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 40, 50, 130, and 165 percent of the area median income can apply for the apartments, which range from $537/month studios to $3,065/month two-bedrooms. About 100 of the units will be set aside for senior New Yorkers aged 62 and older.

One of the latest residential towers to rise on the Long Island City waterfront has officially kicked off leasing for its 200 market-rate apartments. Developed by TF Cornerstone as part of the redevelopment of Hunter's Point South, 5241 Center Boulevard is one half of a two-building project designed by ODA, with SLCE as the architect of record. One- and two-bedroom apartments start at roughly $2,900/month and $3,525/month, respectively, with concessions included, according to current availability.

A year-and-a-half ago, developer TF Cornerstone broke ground on their two-building, 1,194-unit project at Hunter's Point South, located along the East River in Long Island City. Anchored by a new half-acre public park, the pair of ODA-designed towers will be 60 percent affordable. Today, a lottery launched for 185 of these low- and middle-income units, available to those earning 50, 130, and 165 percent of the area median income. The available homes range from $698/month studios to $2,704/month two-bedrooms.

Waitlist reopens for ‘moderate-income’ rentals in Long Island City, with units up to $5,183/month

Applications are currently being accepted to replenish the waitlist for moderate-income apartments at two Long Island City buildings. Located across from the newly opened Hunter's Point South Park, the towers at 1-50 50th Avenue and 1-55 Borden Avenue were developed in 2013 as part of the neighborhood's waterfront redevelopment, with a majority of the apartments set aside low- and middle-income households. But apartments available through the current waitlist are for households earning between $104,538 and $278,300 annually with units ranging from a $2,992/month one-bedroom to a $5,183/month three-bedroom. In 2017, the median household income in Queens was just over $64,500 per year.

1,200-unit Hunters Point development breaks ground and reveals new looks

Developer TF Cornerstone officially broke ground Friday on its mixed-use, affordable housing development in Long Island City, a plan that began nearly six years prior. The project, which consists of 1,194 new apartments across two buildings on Center Boulevard, falls under the city's redevelopment of Hunter's Point South, a proposal with the goal of bringing 5,000 units of new housing to the area first backed by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. In addition to the residences, the project includes construction of a community center, local retail, a new public park designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, and a K-8 school. A pair of new renderings highlights the open space planned between the new towers.

PHOTOS: Phase two of Hunter’s Point South Park officially opens on the LIC waterfront

Photo © 6sqft The Hunter's Point South Park extension officially opened Wednesday, over three years after construction began at the Long Island City site. The second phase adds 5.5 acres south to the existing park, which currently has a basketball court, playground, two dog-runs, and a volleyball sand pit. The city's Economic Development Corporation and Department of Parks and Recreation developed the project, which measures 11-acres from 50th Avenue to Newton Creek on the East River. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, local officials and community members gathered to celebrate the project's opening. "This is a beautiful park," State Sen. Michael Gianaris said. "Enough to make our friends across in Manhattan look over and be jealous that they don't have anything as beautiful on their side of the River."

The second phase of Hunters Point South Park will be ready for visitors by summer

Long Island City is getting five more glorious acres of waterfront park space, with the city expected to complete Hunters Point South Park in the coming months. The second phase of the park, which stretches below 54th Avenue and wraps around Newtown Creek, is nearing completion after three years under construction, according to LIC Post. The city's Economic Development Corporation says the opening date will come by late spring or early summer, so New Yorkers will have a whole new outdoor amenity to enjoy when the weather warms up.
