A challenge that every New York apartment dweller will face eventually is one of storage. This is a city of cozy, compact spaces, and although many of us are lacking the luxury of basements, walk-in closets, garages, etc., we usually make up for it in unique ways. (Hello, lofted apartment!) Raad studio creatively took up the challenge at a duplex in Noho, where storage is so prevalent and seamlessly integrated into the design, it demands a standing ovation from storage-starved New Yorkers everywhere.

As raad studio explains on their website, “Our clients in this NoHo duplex are collectors of all sorts of interesting items, from film memorabilia to vinyl records, to toy robots. We wanted to create a clean, warm space that would showcase these interests, whilst including as much flexible storage as possible.” You guys had us at the stairway coat closet. Paired with the lovely interior of big windows, high ceilings and wood detailing, we’re completely sold.

There are a lot of simple but ingenious solutions to maximize space, such as the bookcase in the living room. It was designed to easily slide back into the stairwell, leaving the living room a more open, clean space.

There are basically cubbies, shelving, nooks and crannies in every room of the apartment. Raad was inspired by the idea of a “transforming robot”–meaning that “nearly every surface folds, slides, or opens to reveal all sorts of new surprises.”

Case in point: The office that was pictured earlier? Yeah, that can easily be transformed into a guest bedroom. A murphy bed easily descends to turn this into a lovely-looking bedroom. The simple design translates well–depending on whether the bed is down, the room makes total sense as either an office or bedroom space.

In the master bedroom, warm wood finishes and a big window are offset with bluish hues. And of course, we applaud the drawers built in so seamlessly you’d be forgiven for thinking that’s the wainscoting. Who thought storage could be so exciting? See more innovative work from Raad Studio here.
