Robert A.M. Stern’s 520 Park Avenue, Upper East Side’s tallest building, hits pinnacle height

April 14, 2017

520 Park Avenue, well on its way to being the tallest skyscraper on the Upper East Side, is putting its final crowning members in place, CityRealty reports. The developer of the 54-story tower just off Park Avenue at East 60th Street is the multi-generational Zeckendorf real estate dynasty who brought us 50 U.N. Plaza, 15 Central Park West and the neighborhood-transforming Worldwide Plaza and Union Square’s Zeckendorf Towers.

The Zeckendorfs are betting that the new building rising behind the landmarked Christ Church and the Grolier Club will continue the good fortune they’ve had on the Upper East Side: Their 515 Park Avenue shattered Manhattan sales records two decades ago with an average sellout of more than $2,000 a foot.

Homes in the new tower will follow the same time-tested formula of soaring ceilings, Central Park views and gracious full-floor layouts behind a revivalist façade of limestone, punctuated by oversized bay windows and balconies.

A crown with four spires, positioned asymmetrically atop the building’s slender shaft makes it a distinguishable landmark on the Central Park skyline.

Also in their good-fortune arsenal is noted architect Robert A.M. Stern (of 15 Central Park West, One Museum Mile, and 220 Central Park South fame, to name a few), who is handling the exterior and the building’s exterior and interior design. As 6sqft previously reported, lower-floor units begin 20 stories up, and are priced to covet under $20 million. A palatial triplex penthouse of over 12,500 square feet fills the topmost floors and will have a $130 million ask ready to entice another outrageous fortune.

Skyline-gazers will continue to watch the tower climbing toward its full height; completion is anticipated next year. Follow the progress and see all availabilities here.
