Once home to the Steinway & Sons piano company, the landmarked building at 111 West 57th Street was acquired by developers JDS Development, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners in 2013 for $217.5 million and has since become incorporated into SHoP Architects’ super-slender supertall tower rising next to it. Originally built in 1925, the Beaux-Arts building will house the lobby for the luxury tower and a small number of apartments, including this 5,200+ square-foot duplex penthouse that just listed for $21 million.

Like the residences in SHoP’s skyscraper—where the penthouse will cost $57 million—the interiors have been designed by Studio Sofield. A private elevator opens onto the first floor, which contains two bedrooms, an office, a den, the kitchen, and a monumental living room with 26-foot vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace. Arched glass doors lead to a 1,000 square-foot wraparound terrace. The finishes are predictably luxurious, with stone floors in the entrance foyer and smoke gray oak parquet in the main living space.

Upstairs, the master suite has two private terraces, including one that is 2,500 square feet and boasts “tree-top views of Central Park.” The master suite also has a dressing room with a wet bar and an en-suite bath clad in white onyx and featuring a double vanity, free-standing nickel-plated soaking tub, and a glass-enclosed shower. The second, south-facing terrace overlooks the Steinway Building’s “distinctive and beautifully restored copper roof and lantern.”

Residents will have access to a host of amenities, including a two-lane swimming pool, sauna, steam, a fitness center, private dining room and chef’s catering kitchen, a residents’ lounge, meeting rooms, and more.
