A well-preserved mid-century prefab home in New York designed by prolific architect Frank Lloyd Wright hit the market this week. Surrounded by woods in the Hudson Valley hamlet of Blauvelt, the “Socrates Zaferiou House” was designed by Wright in a variation of his trademark Usonian style. Asking $1,525,000, the single-family home features a flat roof, L-shaped open floor plan, asymmetrical forms, and large windows to bring the outside in.

In the rugged Fire Island Pines, a mid-century modern home designed by a famed architect is for sale. Asking $2,350,000, the four-bedroom residence was built in 1964 by Horace Gifford, who developed dozens of cedar-and-glass beach homes now synonymous with the area, and underwent a major renovation in 2010. An opportunity to build the ultimate retreat, the property’s separate, charming beach cottage is also for sale, listed at $975,000.

When the current owner of this distinctive home at 443 Sail Walk in the wild, windswept Fire Island Pines first saw it, the house reminded him of the I.M. Pei-designed pyramid at the Louvre, transported to the Atlantic shore. As the New York Times recently recounted, real estate agent Glenn Rice toured the house while visiting a friend, and subsequently purchased the mid-century wonder in 2018 for $1.6 million. After furnishing it with his personal collection of items from the 1960s and ’70s–he’s also a mid-mod furniture dealer–and adding $400k in upgrades, Rice is selling the house for $6.5 million.

New York State has begun its colorful transformation into fall. The first signs of autumn can already be seen in the Adirondacks, with the rest of the state to soon follow suit. To help New Yorkers follow the cycle of foliage, the state released this week its annual Fall Foliage Report. The interactive map is updated weekly using observations and reports from a state-wide group of volunteers known as “leaf peepers,” as 6sqft previously reported.

The Dutch farmhouse-style home at 35 Washington Spring Road in Snedens Landing–known as Ding Dong House because of a large bell that once adorned its rooftop–was built by John Sneden, whose family founded the ferry that serves the surrounding town of Palisades. Since then it has also been the residence of celebrities from Aaron Copland to Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. Built in 1750 with an addition that dates from 1860, this historic home is a peerless part of the celebrity-approved Hudson Valley enclave’s history and has been updated with 21st-century infrastructure. It’s now on the market for $6,500,000.

The six-acre estate on the Greenwich, Connecticut, waterfront that was owned by former president Donald Trump and his late ex-wife Ivana in the 1980s is back on the market for $29.9 million, the Wall Street Journal reports. The home’s present owners, investment banker Robert Steinberg and his wife Suzanne, bought it for $15 million in 1998. The Georgian mansion at 21 Vista Drive, with sweeping views of Long Island Sound, has been on and off the market since 2009 when the Steinbergs listed it for $50 million; it was relisted for $54 million in 2014. As 6sqft previously reported, it has seen several price cuts since then, but no takers.

The Storm King Art Center in the Hudson Valley will undergo a $45 million revamp this fall to enhance the visitor experience and better serve its growing community, the 500-acre outdoor museum announced last week. As first reported by The Art Newspaper, the project includes a new welcome area, improved parking and accessibility, and a new facility to support grand-scale works. Construction will begin later this year and the redesign is expected to be completed in 2024.
