Brooklyn’s borough-wide ‘bookstore crawl’ is back

The beloved Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl is returning to the borough for its largest outing yet. The event, which kicks off on April 22 and runs through Independent Bookstore Day on April 29, invites bookworms to visit the 25 book shops participating in this year's crawl for a chance to win prizes while supporting local businesses.

Independent bookstore McNally Jackson to open new flagship location at Rockefeller Center

Bookworms will soon have a new reason to visit Rockefeller Center. This December, beloved independent bookstore McNally Jackson will open a new flagship location at the iconic commercial complex in Midtown, Tishman Speyer announced this month. The new bookstore will measure 7,000 square feet and include McNally Jackson's stationary store, Goods For The Study.

A ‘bookstore crawl’ returns to Brooklyn this month

For the first time since 2019, Brooklyn's bookstores are inviting readers back for a borough-wide book crawl. Starting on April 23 and leading up to Independent Bookstore Day on April 30, those interested can pick up a "Bookstore Crawl Passport" at any of the 21 participating locations and fill out it with stamps and signatures from each bookstore visited for the chance to win a prize.

The Bronx’s first independent bookstore is now open

On Saturday April 27, National Bookstore Day, the first independent bookstore in the Bronx–and currently the borough's only bookstore–held its grand opening bash. As Curbed reports, The Lit. Bar bookshop/wine bar at 131 Alexander Avenue in the Mott Haven neighborhood is a long-anticipated labor of love brought to life by Bronx native Noëlle Santos, who first saw a need when the borough's last bookstore, a Barnes & Noble, threatened to close. The Barnes & Noble closed in 2016 despite community efforts, but a dream was born.
