A penthouse apartment at the supertall 111 West 57th Street has sold for over $50 million, making it one of the priciest real estate deals in the city since the coronavirus pandemic struck this spring. Duplex Penthouse 75 sold “for around the list price” of $57 million, according to a spokesperson for the Billionaires’ Row development. The two-level apartment has four bedrooms, five and a half baths, and boasts 14-foot ceilings and incredible views of Central Park.

Developed by JDS Development, Property Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, 111 West 57th Street has been somewhat of an outlier in the city’s current luxury market, which has slowed dramatically because of the pandemic. Earlier this summer, two $30 million units at the tower sold during the COVID-19 shutdown. And in September, a $66 million triplex penthouse and a $39.5 million three-bedroom apartment at the building hit the market.

According to CityRealty, Penthouse 75 is the city’s 12th most expensive deal since March 1, 2020. Out of the 20 most expensive deals since that date, 15 of them have been at 220 Central Park South, with a nearly $100 million penthouse that sold at the building in July taking the top spot.

Designed by SHoP Architects with interiors by Studio Sofield, 111 West 57th Street rises 1,428 feet, making it the second tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere. Its super slender frame allows all 46 full-floor condos to feel like private homes.

The project has incorporated the historic Steinway Hall, home to piano company Steinway & Sons, as part of its entrance and to hold amenity space. The Beaux-Arts building also contains 14 apartments, called the Landmark Residences, which will begin closings early next year.

The tower’s Duplex Penthouse 75 has been designed around a central entrance gallery that boasts an oval staircase connecting the two floors. The 7,130-square-foot apartment’s great hall spans the full 50-foot width of the tower and has floor-to-ceiling windows that directly overlook Central Park. On the upper level, there’s a master suite, sitting room, wet bar, two dressing halls, and a walk-in closet.

Residents can enjoy an 82-foot swimming pool with private cabanas, a sauna, a double-height fitness center, a private dining room, a lounge, 24-hour attended entrances, concierge service, and a private porte-cochère at the 58th Street entrance.
