Roller skating is having a major moment, brought on by the pandemic and possibly quarantine boredom. New Yorkers can now embrace the nostalgia at one of the most fitting places in the city: the TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy Airport. The retro 1960s-inspired hotel is opening a roller skating rink this month on the tarmac outside of the 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane-turned cocktail bar. Roll-A-Rama at the Runway Rink launches May 14 and will operate on weekends.

The checkered rink is outdoors, located in front of “Connie,” the historic Lockheed Constellation airplane that has been retrofitted into a cocktail bar. According to the hotel, the rink measures 44-by-56 feet and “retro tunes” (think Disco) will be provided.
The Roll-A-Rama is open to skaters Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting.
Admission to the rink can be purchased at the hotel’s skate shack, sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The 50-minute skate sessions cost $20 per adult and $16 per child under 12, with skate rentals included. Roller skating parties are available.

The TWA Hotel opened in May 2019 as a rebirth of Eero Saarinen’s historic TWA Flight Center. The two six-story crescent-shaped buildings contain 512 rooms, a rooftop infinity pool and observation deck, event space, food hall, luxury fitness center, and retro cocktail bar.
