In celebration of its 10th birthday, The Sill, the direct-to-consumer houseplant company, is hosting a major sale event on some of its best-selling plants and planters. The company got its start in New York in 2012 with the idea that “plants make people happy,” and has since expanded to several other cities, including Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago. During the month of May, use the code BIRTHDAY to take 10 percent off one item, 20 percent off two items, and 30 percent off three or more items in the birthday sale collection, which includes favorites like the fiddle leaf fig, snake plant, and philodendron.

All of these products have been hand-selected by Team 6sqft. We may receive a commission for purchases made through these affiliate links. All prices reflect those at the time of publishing.

Calathea orbifolia, $40
With its large round striped leaves, Calathea orbifolia makes a pretty addition to any plant-filled apartment. The plant does best in medium to bright indirect light, likes high humidity and lots of water, and is pet-friendly.

Monstera deliciosa, $40
Another easy-to-care-for houseplant is the Monstera deliciosa, native to the Tropical Americas. It’s best known for its broad heart-shaped green leaves that have holes, or fenestrations. Nicknamed the “swiss cheese plant,” this plant thrives in bright indirect to medium light and needs to be watered every one to two weeks.

Fiddle leaf fig, $30
Fiddle leaf fig plants may need some more attention, but their pretty foliage makes a little work worth it. The Sill recommends keeping it in a stable environment, with bright light and a watering every one to two weeks.

Snake plant laurentii, $30
Characterized by tall, stiff striped leaves, the snake plant is super durable as an indoor plant. While medium to bright light is best, the plant can also tolerate low light.

Ric Rac cactus, $30
This zig-zag-shaped cactus from Mexico has thick, leathery leaves in a unique serrated shape. In addition to its unique look, other perks of the ric rac cactus include being pet friendly and easy to grow.

Small philodendron green, $30
A fit for any sunny shelf or window sill, the philodendron plant is one of the Sill’s most popular houseplants. Not only does the vining plant make any home look Instagram-worthy, but since it can tolerate both bright and low indirect light and doesn’t need frequent watering, it is also a great starter for any new plant parent.

Small upcycled planter, $37
As part of the birthday sale, you can snag discounted upcycled planters, made of agricultural by-products and natural fiber and finished with a non-toxic resin. Starting at $37 for a small size, the planters come in four colors, avocado, blue, cream, and stonewash.
