A striking new high-rise rental tower in Downtown Brooklyn designed with young professionals in mind has launched a housing lottery for 89 middle-income apartments. Rising 43 stories at 55 Willoughby Street, House 55 features sleek residential interiors and a suite of amenities tailored to a work-from-home lifestyle. New Yorkers earning 130 percent of the area median income can apply for the units, priced from $3,543/month studios to $4,518/month two bedrooms.

Developed in a joint venture by Lonicera Partners and Rabina, the building contains 290 residences featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, 9-foot ceilings in living rooms, open kitchens and bathrooms with premium appliances, central heating and air conditioning, and in-unit laundry, according to CityRealty.

The building’s bold cantilevered design, crafted by Colberg Architecture in collaboration with Architecture Outfit (AO), punctuates the start of Willoughby Street at its intersection with Brooklyn Commons. The tower’s lower setbacks align with surrounding building heights and pronounced cornice lines, while the upper portion complements the geometry and “gravity” of the cantilevered massing, AO said.

Dark-colored aluminum panels alternate direction from floor to floor and are integrated into a curtain wall system manufactured by Elicc Group, creating asymmetrical, dynamic light reflections. Rainscreen panels with variegated surface treatments and beveled profiles further animate the facade, playing with light and shadow across its surfaces.

AO designed the building’s massing, exterior envelope, lobby interiors, and contract drawings for the facade, while Colberg handled the apartment interiors and planning and served as the architect of record.

Residents will have access to a slew of amenities designed for convenience and comfort, including a 24-hour attended lobby, a rooftop lounge and sundeck with an outdoor kitchen and dining cabanas, a fitness center, common-area Wi-Fi, reservable entertaining space, a package room, bike storage, a shared laundry room, and resident events programming.

Additionally, a full amenities suite on the 42nd floor includes a great room lounge with a fireplace, a dining room with a catering kitchen, a co-working lounge with reservable spaces, and a game room with arcade and table games, according to the building’s website.

The building is pet-friendly, allowing up to two pets per unit with a 50-pound weight limit. Dogs of the Rottweiler, Doberman, pit bull, or German Shepherd breeds—mixed or purebred—are not permitted, as well as any pet with an aggressive nature.

House 55 is currently offering three incentives for prospective tenants: one month free on a one-year lease, two months free on a two-year lease, and 50 percent off amenities during the first year.

Nearby public transit options are abundant, with the 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, F, and R subway lines all within a few blocks, along with numerous bus routes and the Long Island Rail Road at Atlantic Terminal.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the apartments until March 9, 2026. Complete details on how to apply are available here.
