The best Black Friday + Cyber Week deals from NYC brands and small businesses

November 20, 2020

In the pandemic world of 2020, online holiday shopping is expected to grow by 33 percent, and many retailers are taking advantage of this by offering bigger, better, and longer-running Black Friday and Cyber Week deals. Of course, the number of bargains out there are countless, but here at 6sqft, we decided to round up the very best deals on offer from some of your favorite New York City-based brands and small businesses. From Insta-famous companies like Brooklinen and Great Jones to local favorites like CatBird jewelry and The Sill, these promos will save you money and support our beloved city.

All of these products have been hand-selected by team 6sqft. We may receive a commission for purchases made through affiliate links. All prices reflect those at the time of publishing.

Burrow
Headquartered in NYC, this five-year-old furniture startup is popular with apartment dwellers for the fact that its reasonably priced couches (which also claim to be stain- and pet-proof) are shipped in several small boxes and easy to put together. For Black Friday (Saturday, 11/21 – Saturday, 11/28), Burrow is offering 10% off up to $1,399 with the code DEALS, along with larger discounts on bigger-ticket items, for example, $500 off $3,000+. For Cyber Week (Sunday, 11/29 – Sunday, 12/6), the same deal applies with the code DOUBLE, and there are even more additional discounts like $1,000 off $5,000+. The promos even apply to Burrow’s brand-new products, which include a modern bar cart and marble and glass side and end tables.

Brooklinen
This Brooklyn-based, direct-to-consumer bedding company has achieved cult status for its accessible, super-soft sheets, and from now until December 1, the entire site is 20% off (with the exception of the Spaces collection). If it’s your first foray into Brooklinen, the Luxe Sateen are the best seller, but if you really want to take advantage of the deal, we suggest the Hardcore Bundles, which are currently 25% off and come with a full sheet/pillowcase set, two extra pillowcases, and a duvet cover.

Great Jones
Though this company was founded in 2018, their mission to empower home cooks is totally 2020. Childhood best friends Sierra Tishgart and Maddy Moelis, who now live in NYC, wanted to create accessible cookware that was also beautiful and display-worthy (hence why they’ve taken Instagram by storm). Recently (and just in time for the holidays!), they’ve expanded to include bakeware. Their products come in rich yet simple colors (mustard, black, white, an emerald green called “broccoli” and a royal blue called “blueberry”) and affordable prices–$155 for a cast iron dutch oven, $65 for a large non-stick skillet, and $75 for a ceramic casserole dish. And in big news, Great Jones is having its first-ever sale this Black Friday through Cyber Monday, with 20% off all orders over $100.

The Sill
If we could, we’d just have The Sill come over to our apartments and plant-ify them. But now’s a great time to start your own green-thumb adventure because this local brand (the first shop opened on the Lower East Side in 2012) is having some pretty amazing holiday sales. First, on Black Friday, ZZ Plants, Bird’s Nest Ferns, and Potted Succulent Assortments will all be 30%. During Cyber Monday Weekend, Faux Angel Wings Begonias and Faux Rex Begonias will be 25% off, Bird’s Nest Ferns will be 25-50% off, Succulent Trios and Pileas will be 30% off, and Air Plant Trios will be 50% off. And finally, on Cyber Monday itself, you can get 30% off Monsteras.

For Black Friday, the code “Franca10” will get you a 10% discount.

Society6
While Society6 isn’t based in New York, they do showcase NYC-based artists. If you’re unfamiliar with the company, it was founded as a way to give emerging artists a platform to sell their work. Eleven years after its founding, Society6 now works with 300,000+ independent artists from 160+ countries, from painters and illustrators to pattern designers and photographers. They’re best known for their prints–you can select your size, framed or unframed, and more. Another cute gift idea is their new Reusable Water Bottles, which come in tons of fun prints and three different sizes. Other options you can pick your print for include serving trays, coasters, notebooks, and tote bags. From November 23 through December 1, they’re offering 50% off wall art, 40% off home decor and bedding & bath, and 30% off everything else

You’ve seen the work of photographers James and Karla Murray here on 6sqft, but now you can have one of their well-known “storefront” photos in your own home by picking your favorite mom-and-pop print from past or present times. For Black Friday, they’re offering free shipping to anywhere in the USA with an order of a signed 11″ x 14″ Store Front print for $99 or a signed 8″ x  10″ inch print for $75. Payment is via PayPal or Venmo to Karla-Murray. James and Karla ask, “When ordering, please indicate which storefront print you would like to receive. If you have a special request, please let us know as we have photographed thousands of NYC storefronts over the past 30 years!”

Otherland
This candle startup may be Insta-famous now, but it started right here in Brooklyn with the goal of providing that overpriced candle experience for just $36 each. Plus, they’re toxin-free, burn for 55 hours, and the beautiful glass tumblers are made to be reused. Right now, we’re smitten over their Gilded Holiday Collection, which includes fragrances like Fallen Fir (balsam fir, musk, and winter spice) and Silk Pajamas (crystal ginger, bergamot zest, and spiced yuzu). You can also send a custom gift box where you can select your scents. Beginning at midnight on Thanksgiving and running through Cyber Monday, use the code FIREDUP for 20% off sitewide.

Courtesy of Catbird

Catbird
Understated jewelry brand Catbird opened its first shop in Williamsburg in 2004, gaining a following for their delicate rings and affordable-yet-elegant diamonds and stones. Today, there are 40 Catbird jewelers, and everything is handmade at their studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. For Cyber Weekend (9am ET Friday 11/27 – Midnight ET Monday 11/30), they’re offering 15% off sitewide on jewelry and engagement, the only sitewide sale of the year. The deal is available online and or at the Bedford Avenue store (via online curbside pickup or their walk-up window).

Glossier
Glossier founder Emily Weiss has become one of the most celebrated entrepreneurs among New York City e-commerce startups. Just five years after its founding in 2014, the cosmetics company was worth $1.2 billion, cementing its unicorn status. Though Glossier is often considered a millennial favorite, its products are popular with consumers of all ages, thanks to the fact that Weiss spent years listening to what women actually wanted out of their beauty routine. With a skincare-first approach, that now-recognizable pink packaging, and a minimalist approach (you won’t be overwhelmed with the options on the site), you won’t be surprised to find Boy Brow (an eyebrow plumping serum), Balm Dotcom (a skin salve/lip gloss), or the Milky Jelly Cleanser (face wash) in any New Yorkers’ makeup bag. Starting on Thursday, November 26th at 11:59pm EST and running through Monday, November 30 at 11:59pm PST, Glossier is having its only sale of the year, with everything on the site 25% off (up to 35% when you shop sets). Plus, there will be a handful of limited-time sets offered exclusively during Black Friday weekend.

Kiehl’s
Did you know Kiehl’s was founded in the East Village? Yep, in 1851, the apothecary opened in a small storefront on the corner of 13th Street and Second Avenue, eventually becoming one of the most trusted skincare brands out there. On Black Friday, you can get 30% off their bestsellers, and all Cyber Week long, there will be a special deal of the day offering 50% off some fan favorites. They also have a slew of holiday sets that are perfect for gifting.

Courtesy of Maisonette

Maisonette
We can’t forget about the kids! And considering Maisonette was founded by two former Vogue staffers, these toys will still keep your apartment looking chic. In addition to imaginative playthings, the brand sells adorable clothing for babies and children, gear, and furniture and decor for the nursery and kids’ rooms. For Cyber Week (11/24-12/1), there will be markdowns up to 30% off. On Black Friday, you’ll get an extra 10% off $100+. And on Cyber Monday/Tuesday 11/30-12/1),  you’ll get an extra 10% off $100+, 15% off $300+, and 20% of $600+.
