West Village loft offered for $1 returns for $40,000 a month–roommates not included

March 8, 2017

If you missed SpareRoom founder/CEO Rupert Hunt’s, er, hunt for a pair of compatible roomies for his impossibly gorgeous 3,400 square-foot West Village loft with a 1,500 square-foot roof terrace last October, you missed a shot at being Rupe’s roomie for the completely unheard of total of one dollar a month for six months. Now the six months are up, and so is the $1 offer. Take heart, though; the three-story loft at 305 Bleecker Street is just as amazing as it was in October, and it’s renting for the less shocking price of $40,000 a month–though we’ll assume that Hunt and his fortunate flatmates aren’t part of the deal.

In an impressive publicity angle for his room-and-roommate-finding service, Hunt waxed lyrical on the joys and wonders of sharing a living space with strangers and even threw a “speed-roommating” event to find the first two lucky (almost-) freeloaders: Marketing entrepreneur Jacob Castaldi, 22, and Cyrus Schenk, 26, who’s starting a ski-making business–both are transplants from New England–beat out over 8,800 other applicants to bunk with the British entrepreneur for a buck for six months in this spectacular space in the heart of the West Village.

The loft boasts three bedrooms located on two full floors. Of-the-moment details include rough-hewn and industrial steel beamed 12-foot ceilings, rustic extra-wide plank hardwood floors, skylights and oversized, wood-framed windows throughout. The living and entertaining area is comprised of a vast open-plan lounge/dining room/kitchen.

The sleek white Scavolini chef’s kitchen is graced with a statement chandelier and endless counter and seating space. The loft comes furnished, so all the stylish swag stays.

An outsized master bedroom occupies an entire floor of the apartment. Each of the home’s bedrooms has its own walk-in closet, private bathroom, and office area.

The 1,500-square-foot roof terrace offers 360-degree views and a 17-seat barbecue area complete with full grilling gear.

The tricked-out triplex is available from three to six months with the possibility of a longer stay. Below is a video view from the previous tenant’s roommate-finding campaign.
