One in a row of 12 Romanesque Revival townhouses that line the street across from Prospect Park, this graceful five-story Park Slope brownstone at 608 Fifth Street is the result of a $6 million renovation by its owners, design pros The Brooklyn Home Company. The home's covetable attributes befit a mansion with an asking price of $11.995 million, including multiple terraces, a rooftop kitchen, a basement gym, a rebuilt central spiral staircase, and a private garage with a full glass wall. According to the Wall Street Journal, the landmarked home was built in its current grand style at the turn of the 20th century and converted in the 1940s into an eight-unit apartment building.

After three years on the market, the grand Queen Anne townhouse at 280 Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill has closed for $9,050,000, setting a sales record for the neighborhood. The previous record-holder was 315 Vanderbilt Avenue, which sold for $7,200,000 in 2015. The 10,000-square-foot mansion is known as the Pfizer mansion as it was built in 1887 for Charles Erhart, co-founder of the Pfizer pharmaceutical company and brother-in-law to Charles Pfizer. The opulent home features historic details like an original Otis elevator, moldings and woodwork galore, eight fireplaces, and stained glass. There's also a sunken "speakeasy" party room, seven bedrooms, a wine cellar, and a beautifully landscaped backyard.

The unique 10,000-square-foot double mansion at 280 Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill happens to be one of Brooklyn's finest examples of both. Known as the Pfizer Mansion–it was built in 1887 by Charles Erhart, co-founder of the Pfizer pharmaceutical company and brother-in-law to Charles Pfizer–the block-through property had a full slate of interesting inhabitants, from a library to industrial band rockers, before receiving an epic renovation from its current owner. That same owner, designer Jessica Warren, who purchased the property in 2007 for $3.2 million, spent many years and many millions restoring the house to a stunning degree that surpassed even its former glory. The home, which has been featured in numerous design publications, has most recently been a beloved B & B known as The Notorious B.N.B. The current owners put the house on the market in 2018 for $13.5 million. Nearly thirteen years ago, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard spent $1.91 million on a Park Slope townhouse at 36 Sterling Place. Though their two daughters grew up and went to the exclusive St. Ann’s school in the friendly neighborhood, they now attend school elsewhere, so the couple has decided to list the brownstone in favor of being "able to walk [the children] to school," Gyllenhaal told the Wall Street Journal. In addition to convenience, however, they'll also be looking at a nice profit, considering the home has hit the market for $4,599,000.

$1.7M Ridgewood listing tries to make SoMA (South of Myrtle Avenue) a thing

As if Quooklyn wasn’t bad enough. A recent tipoff about townhouse at 16-35 Hancock Street in prime Ridgewood near the Myrtle-Wyckoff subway stop informed us that: "SoMA (South of Myrtle Avenue) is the new SOHO, with a blossoming creative community of artists and restauranteurs. Former Soho/Tribeca residents have moved to Ridgewood for a more authentic experience and stimulating lifestyle." It's true that Soho/Tribeca residents have long ago fled those neighborhoods on account of billionaire rents and not wanting to live in a sneaker mall, and also true that Ridgewood is ablaze with creative newcomers and packed to the gills with authentic experience. But after SoBro (South Bronx), Dobro (Downtown Brooklyn) SoHa (South Harlem), Soho West (New Jersey) and NoLo (uh...we're really not sure), and, apparently, NoBat, NoCal, BoHo, and GoCaGa, enough may just be enough. Plus, Ridgewood requires no rebranding–it's cool enough on its own.

Gaudy Rockaway house lists for an eye-popping $2.5M

Prices creeping toward the $3 million mark are typically reserved for Manhattan condos and Brooklyn brownstones, but this rather unsightly home in the Rockaways thinks it can fetch a similar sum. Built in the 1870s, the building is the former home of the Swedish American Athletic Club.
