On Long Island, a striking stone and glass home by modernist architect Norman Jaffe asks $3.6M

Norman Jaffe opened his first architecture practice in Bridgehampton in 1973, soon becoming famous for the many contempory residences he designed in the Hamptons. Throughout his 35-year career, he designed more than 600 projects, many of them notable for their sculptural forms, early inclusion of passive solar design, and glass and wood construction. This home in Old Westbury, which he designed early on in 1977, checks all three of those boxes, and is currently on the market for $3,595,000. It sits on more than two acres, with several decks and patios and a salt water pool, and is nearly 7,000 square feet with six bedrooms, a home movie theater, and even a spa.

Known for the "romantic modernist" residential architecture of so many iconic angular beach houses in the Hamptons, Norman Jaffe was a prolific architect who designed more than 600 projects during his 35-year career. Jaffe, who died in 1993, used passive solar design and lots of glass and wood in his striking waterfront homes. Built in 1993, the 12,980-square-foot residence at 1981 Broadway, asking $5.9 million, diverges a bit from his usual style. Set high on a bluff over the Hudson River surrounded by 20 acres of waterfront land in Ulster County, New York, the home's design refers to classic Greek architecture along with Jaffe's usual attention to natural light and shadow.

‘Romantic modernist’ Norman Jaffe designed this sculptural Long Island home, now asking $4M

This dramatic, swooping home is the masterwork of Norman Jaffe, an architect known for this “romantic modernist” homes throughout the Hamptons. This stunner is located in Old Westbury, Long Island, at 15 Horseshoe Road. It was built in 1977 and chosen as one of the "best houses in America" in 1979. As Curbed put it, the unique two-story structure is "formed by several hulking volumes" which include a wood-clad, wedge-like roof, a glass-walled living space, and a stone facade and patios. It's now on the market for $3.995 million.
