A stunning waterfront estate in the Hamptons designed by the late architect Norman Jaffe is on the market for just under $18,000,000. Located on Seascape Lane in the village of Quogue, the residence sits on five acres overlooking Quantuck Bay. With angular lines and an abundance of natural materials, the shingled home is an example of Jaffe’s signature modernist style. The ship-like property boasts a massive wraparound outdoor deck, two docks, a tennis court, putting green, and a resort-like swimming pool.

Constructed in 1987, Jaffe designed the contemporary home to maximize natural light and southwest-facing views, looking across the bay and beyond to the Atlantic. According to Mansion Global, the prolific architect, who became a fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1991, designed more than 50 homes in the Hamptons.

The property last hit the market in late 2020 for $18,750,000. As Curbed reported, the current owner bought the home in 2001 for $7.75 million.”There are a lot of McMansions on Long Island,” owner John Miller told Curbed. “But this home is not at all offensive to the environment.”

Measuring over 8,000 square feet, the residence contains five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. Upon entering the architecturally unique home, you’re greeted by huge 30-foot cathedral ceilings made of wood and a huge open floor plan that allows for views of nearly every corner of the home.

The residence features an “abundance of natural wood, geometric lines, and walls of windows,” as the listing describes. Multiple sunlights bring even more natural light to the space and a stone fireplace keeps things cozy.

The massive eat-in kitchen has lots of counter space and a sleek floor-to-ceiling cabinetry system. Floor-to-ceiling windows line the adjacent sunken formal dining room, which also boasts a mirrored ceiling.

Upstairs, the bedrooms all benefit from water views and modern bathrooms. A homey den with a steeple-like window has direct water views, while another bedroom suite has access to a small balcony.

As Curbed noted, the patio around the 50-by-20-foot swimming heated pool has been updated to add the sun deck and two changing rooms, and a bathroom. Other outdoor perks include a tennis court, a professional putting green, and a 100-foot stationary pier with a 30-foot floating dock.

Located in the Town of Southampton, the village of Quogue is a quiet, family-friendly area with a lovely historic district and serene shoreline. The drive to the village from Midtown Manhattan takes about two hours.
