One of the flashiest new residential projects on the horizon is the American Copper Buildings, the SHoP Architects-designed dancing towers along the East River that have become best known for their three-story, amenity-filled skybridge, the highest such structure in the city at 300 feet above street level. As 6sqft previously reported, when completed early next year, the shimmering buildings will offer 761 rental units, 20 percent of which will be earmarked for low-income households. This latter group of 160 apartments has now officially come online through the city’s affordable housing lottery, ranging from $833/month studios to $1,247/month three-bedrooms.
In addition to coveted East River views and a trendy Murray Hill location, residents will have access to the towers’ host of luxurious amenities, including the sky bridge’s lap pool and resident lounge. Other perks are a rooftop deck with an infinity-edge pool, fitness center, boxing gym, squash court, children’s playroom, screening room, demo kitchen and dining area, and the marble Hammam with plunge pool. The lottery listing does note, however, that these have limited availability and may require an additional fee.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units at the American Copper Buildings beginning Monday, August 15, until October 14, 2016. Residents of Manhattan Community Board 6 will be given preference for 50 percent of the units. Complete details on how to apply are available here (pdf). Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
