According to property records filed with the city in Friday, it appears that George Stephanopoulos is moving on up in his 30 East 72nd Street co-op!
The Good Morning America co-anchor and his comedian wife, Alexandra “Ali” Wentworth, purchased a sizeable 2BR/2BA apartment located on the 10th floor of their current building for $2.2 million. The pair already own a 3,300-square-foot, ninth-floor apartment at the same property, purchased for $6.5 million in 2010. Word is that the couple will merge the two apartments into one luxurious home.
Stephanopoulos’ buy comes hot off his contract extension at GA, which will keep him at our breakfast tables for another five years. With a few extra bucks now in hand, the plans to expand come as no surprise.
The 10th floor unit will add four fully-renovated rooms, and Stephanopoulos plans to spend about $140,000 to combine the units, paperwork shows. The 10th floor apartment was purchased from Caroline Mullen, a former executive with investment giant BlackRock. Mullen paid $1.7 million in 2005.
Bonus: It’s also reported that he and Ali are searching for a new Hamptons home. The pair sold their East Hampton pad for $5.1 million in 2012. Be sure to keep your eyes on this couple’s ever-expanding real estate portfolio.
