Fans of furniture thrifting and eco-friendly home decor got some welcome news this week. AptDeco, the used furniture online marketplace, has launched national shipping, expanding from its current service zone of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Delaware, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Now anyone in the continental United States looking to sell or buy furniture online can sign up on AptDeco.
AptDeco launched in 2014 as a safer and easier alternative to Craigslist. The website features both new and pre-owned home items from top brands like CB2, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, and Restoration Hardware, World Market, and others, all up to 70 percent off retail prices.
AptDeco hopes expanding market opportunities will help minimize the amount of furniture sent to landfills, “estimated to be 12 million tons every year,” according to the company.
“As we look to the future of the furniture industry, we recognize the importance of the role we play in changing consumer mindset around used furniture,” Reham Fagiri, CEO of AptDeco, said. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing consumers with safe and secure transactions, and the most accessible options in the continental United States. With the expansion of national shipping and delivery, anyone can easily participate in a circular economy.”
For sellers, it’s free to list items on the platform and AptDeco coordinates pickup and delivery. When something sells, the company charges a fee based on the type of item, brand, and selling price, which could range between 25 and 38 percent of the sale price.
Buyers can search for furniture, lighting, rugs, and other items by brand and category, then request to purchase and schedule a time to receive their item. The AptDeco team handles the delivery and inspects items for accuracy.
