Another lottery opened for affordable apartments at the huge Far Rockaway development, Edgemere Commons. Currently under construction, the 11-building complex will deliver 2,000 affordable homes, retail, community facilities, and open public space to the Rockaway peninsula. The latest rental, located at 5119 Beach Channel Drive, has 189 apartments available through the housing lottery for New Yorkers earning 30, 50, 60, and 80 percent of the area median income. Homes are priced from $544/month for a studio to $2,949/month for a three-bedroom.

Next phase of affordable Far Rockaway development breaks ground

Construction is set to begin on an affordable residential building within a new development in Far Rockaway. As first reported by Commercial Observer, Tishman Speyer's TS Communities announced it secured financing and will break ground this month on Edgemere Commons A2, a 100 percent affordable building at 337 Beach 52nd Street and the second all-affordable development within the larger Edgemere Commons complex. The building will rise 18 stories and deliver 244 affordable apartments ranging from studios to three bedrooms, for households earning between 40 and 80 percent of the area median income.

Applications are now being accepted for 134 affordable apartments at a new residential complex in Far Rockaway. The apartment building is part of the first phase of Edgemere Commons, an 11-tower development with over 2,000 affordable homes, retail, community space, health care facilities, and outdoor public space. New Yorkers earning 30, 60, and 80 percent of the area median income, or between $24,480 for a single person and $140,080 for a household of seven, can apply for the apartments, priced from $617/month for one-bedroom homes to $2,665/month three bedrooms.

Construction begins on massive $100M affordable complex in Far Rockaway

Construction officially kicked off on a huge housing development that will rise on a former hospital site in Far Rockaway. Edgemere Commons is an 11-building complex with more than 2,000 affordable homes, retail, community space, medical facilities, and outdoor public space planned. The first phase involves the construction of a 17-story building with 194 homes.

2,050 affordable apartments coming to former Peninsula Hospital site in Far Rockaway

The City Council voted yesterday to give the go-ahead to the Arker Companies' massive redevelopment of the former Peninsula Hospital site in Far Rockaway. Named Edgemere Commons, the 11-building project in the Edgemere neighborhood will include 2,050 units of affordable housing, the largest such project by a private developer under the de Blasio administration. It will also have commercial, community facility, and retail space, including a new supermarket, as well as a playground and a public plaza (rendering also show, of course, a food hall). After 104 years, the hospital closed in 2012 due mainly to financial troubles. The Edgemere Commons project hopes to "reactivate the site" and "spur economic growth in Far Rockaway," according to a press release.
