English manor-style Yonkers home designed by noted architect hits market for $2.2M

The only known Westchester house designed by famed American architect Wilson Eyre is for sale. Asking $2,225,000, the home at 573 North Broadway was modeled after country homes seen by Eyre during an 1895 trip to England. Built in 1910, the single-family brick home was nearly demolished in 2007, but a design-savvy couple bought the home and completed a restoration of the historic property.
A gated entrance leads visitors through lush gardens to the home’s welcoming foyer and expansive living space, where there is no shortage of room for entertainment.
The main floor includes both indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces, connecting to a sunroom, patio, and an additional private terrace. Adjacent to the terrace is a sitting room with a fireplace, one of four located throughout the house. On the main floor, you can find a large family room with an additional stone fireplace and sunroom.
A third fireplace can be found in the dining room, which is located directly next to a large eat-in kitchen with a central island and plenty of space for cooking and gathering.
The home’s primary bedroom suite is located upstairs and includes both a dressing room and bathroom. Located nearby on the second floor are three additional bedrooms that share a bathroom in the hall.
In total, there are seven bedrooms and four and a half baths.
The English country home influence is seen in architectural details like the casement windows with stained glass schooners, ornately carved wooden brackets, slate roof tiles, and the herringbone brick terrace.
The property includes space for vehicles, with a detached two-car garage providing space for cars and additional storage above.
The home was facing demolition in 2007 when a developer made it known that he was looking to purchase the property and replace the historic manor with multiple homes. The property was saved from the wrecking ball when it was purchased by a couple who later conducted a “comprehensive, award-winning restoration,” according to the listing.
The house is located in the Woodstock Manor neighborhood in Yonkers, just a 30-minute drive away from Manhattan.
The Philadelphia area-based architect Eyre was known nationally for his Shingle-style homes and as the founder of House and Garden magazine. The home on North Broadway is the only known Eyre house in Westchester.
