With its sweeping staircases and exquisitely landscaped grounds nestled within a quiet waterfront community, this historic Douglas Manor colonial at 122 Grosvenor Street calls to mind one of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s most memorable characters, the inimitable Jay Gatsby. And although this six-bedroom masterpiece listed at $2.7 million might not quite measure up to the former James Gatz’s lofty standards, we are completely enamored with this astonishingly lovely home.

The residence’s grand center entrance immediately gives you a taste of what you’ll find once you step beyond the threshold. A bright and sunny kitchen offers both counter seating and an adorable breakfast nook with paned double doors leading out to the garden area. Imagine swinging those doors open on a brisk spring morning and enjoying your breakfast while the smell and sounds of the season lull you into a sweet serenity.

A formal living room, sun-drenched family room and large formal dining room mean there’s plenty of room to entertain—even if it’s on a scale slightly less ambitious than the parties held in Gatsby’s West Egg mansion. An absolutely divine home office boasting a wall of built-ins and surrounded by arched windows running the length of the room makes working the day away feel like a walk in the park.

The second floor’s spacious hallway grants access to a charming sun porch, and the master bedroom features a sizeable step-down sitting area, perfect for cozying up with your favorite book. With five additional bedrooms and four-and-half baths this home is tailor-made for sharing with family and friends.

As beautiful as the interior is, the professionally landscaped property is equally stunning and easily accessible from throughout the main floor. Our favorite part of the spacious grounds? A gorgeous slate patio featuring a pergola dripping with mature plantings.

Although the photos probably don’t do this home justice, we’ve got plenty more on hand in our gallery for you to feast your eyes on.

This is a lovely upper middle class home, not one of the vast palaces that would have inspired the book’s author.
Very nice, but not even the size of some estates’ servant’s quarters.
