Williamsburg diner relocates to movie studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard

An iconic Williamsburg diner that has been a neighborhood fixture for nearly 60 years was lifted off its foundation and relocated to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where it will get new life as a movie set. The Wythe Diner on Monday was hoisted by crane and transported to Steiner Studios’ waterfront lot, where it will serve permanently as a film set, extending the retro restaurant's long history on the big screen. The diner had faced demolition for years amid plans for a new apartment building, prompting a deal to physically relocate it and preserve the beloved structure.

Steiner Studios to open film and TV hub at Bush Terminal in Sunset Park

Steiner Studios will open a second film and television production facility in Brooklyn, city officials announced Thursday. The city's Economic Development Corporation and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment selected Steiner to open a 500,000-square-foot production space at Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, as part of the Made in New York Campus, currently being transformed into a garment manufacturing and media production hub. The studio has operated a facility across 50 acres at the Brooklyn Navy Yard since 2004, one of the largest production spaces outside of Hollywood.

New renderings of Wegmans building kick off leasing at Brooklyn Navy Yard Admiral’s Row

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) announced Tuesday the launch of leasing for 130,000 square feet of manufacturing and creative office space at Building 212, part of a project in the works at Admiral's Row, formerly the site of a row of 19th century wood frame homes that once housed naval officers. Along with the announcement came new renderings of the five story building that will be home to a much-anticipated Wegmans supermarket scheduled to open this fall.

A $2.5B plan will bring an additional 5 million square feet to the Brooklyn Navy Yard

The transformation of the Brooklyn Navy Yard from a warship building site into an industrial tech-hub got an extra boost this week after a non-profit announced a $2.5 billion building plan that would quadruple its current workforce. As Bloomberg first reported, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, which serves as the site's property manager on behalf of the city, plans to add 5.1 million square feet of manufacturing space to the site, with a little over half of it going towards one large complex.

Move It Whole Foods, Brooklyn Is Getting a Wegmans!

Everyone rejoice! East Coast foodie favorite Wegmans is finally coming our way, inking a deal to open its first ever NYC location in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The New York Times reports that the supermarket giant will take up a whopping 74,000 square feet, anchoring the new shopping complex slated to replace Admiral's Row. Wegmans beat out three other proposals vying to enter the scene but was ultimately chosen because of the lack of affordable grocers in the area, and the store's commitment to bring 600 jobs to the area, 200 of which will be full-time—double what other proposals promised to deliver.
